OT- Munk's defensive ammo

Where does the .357 magnum in a 3" S & W stand in all this?


edit ~ and the .41 mag in the same gun?

The 357 is the cartridge the newer semi autos hoped to equal when they grew up.
I'm not certain if the 125 loading ever lost the one shot stop record. Spectre would know that. (that is actually close to his model)

As the 10 mm was once the best semi auto cartridge I never owned, the 357 is the best revolver round I never owned. I do have a target 38, a 32 mag, and of course certain loading of the 41 are in 357 territory. (one reason I like the 41- stepping up and down- versatile)

I don't know as a 3" barrel would change it's performance that much- it has energy to burn. However, the muzzle blast would probably, as OConnor used to say, 'Lay the Daises Low."

I understand also once you hear a 357 fired indoors you don't hear much else for awhile. (true of 41 also)

Among hard cast proponents it is often felt the animal should be broken down if it cannot be dispatched on the spot- a shoulder shot to break bone.
