ot, need a little car help.

Your Subaru's running lights are probably wired in series with the ignition switch. When the engine is started the lights come on. My '99 Chevy van has big amber front running lights rigged that way. It took a little getting used to, having Big Brother think for me I mean. I quickly got used to it, though, and now it's kind of neat. Mine also has a light sensor that turns on the actual headlights in dim light, too. They tried to make it idiot proof, though I can't understand why. :D

mainly, when leaving work at night i prefer not to backlight other officers nor provide an easy target in the parking lot (which is visible from the freeway).

If it's at night, I would have assumed (normally) you'd have the lights on. Backlighting officers or being a target is an unusual situation definitely!:) Try the one click, may work, I know it doesn't on my Honda - Subaru may program differently??? Starting the car with the e-brake on should cut the lights, until the brake is released. Maybe releasing it enough to disengage the brakes without engaging the switch might work.

also, if i take this car camping, id like to be able to start the car at night, to charge a phone, run the ac, whatever, without the lights going on.
Start the car with the e-brake on, should leave the lights off.

I'm the type of person that wears sunglasses untill well after sunset.

Daytime running lights are bright enough to affect my vision and they are 100% unnecessary.

I have no problem with a motorcycle using them. They can be hard to see. Cars are easy to see.

yes, jaxx recommended this near the beginning of the thread, and it works.

Missed that...:o all I saw was engaging the brake one click to turn them off. In my Honda that won't work. The car has to started with the e-brake on, in order for the DRLs to be off. Once on, they will not turn off, even with the e-brake.

I can sympathize with Mike on this. Having worked with local LE over the years, there are times when you want to be "discrete" and it's damn hard to do this with DRL's. Yes I know all about the saftey aspect, but there are times & good reasons involved by the sounds of things when the damn things are a liability.

i wont be using my pov for any code 5's, but i prefer not to drive around the station at night with my headlights on. a simple courtesy we provide for each other and being backlit by someone who knows better is particularly frustrating.

(mark, not mike :))

my new corolla has daytime running lights-

but the best thing is a auto turn on for nightime headlights-has a sensor on the dash that can tell when to turn the lights on at night,so your not driving on the daytime running lights-

If nothing else, this will solve the problem...

I agree. What is up with stuff not working properly anyway. But instead of a hammer, take INFI to it:

Kinda like my stupid ass microwave. But you know what I am going to post a thread about it.

DUH! Sorry Mark,:foot: sleep deprevation is a wonderfull thing.:o Years back, private vehicles came into play for awhile because the local boys kept using the same brand / style cars for undercover that they used for patrol. No imagination!
