First, thanks for your time and consideration in reading this thread :) I need to know what resolution you the members of the forum use to view your web pages... This is an easy one;

1) Minimize any programs you have open now and place the cursor on an empty area of the desktop.

2) Right-click once and choose 'Properties' from the small menu that pops-up.

3) Choose the 'Settings' tab.

4) At the bottom right you'll see your screen resolution (ie. 600x800, 768x1024, etc...).

5) Click 'Cancel' to exit this box.

Please post this number in a reply and again thanks for your valued input :)

Bill,

All web based graphics are set at 72 dpi (it's a web default thing). They can be larger, but there will be no difference in quality of viewing if you create your images at the size you will view them at on the web and don't stretch them larger. Then, don't over-compress them when saving them into .jpg format (a data lossey process).

As a rule, for my work, I set the rez to 100dpi as I'm not sure what final size I'll be viewing the image at... then if I know for sure it won't change, I'll crop it down as needed.

BTW... for print use, the default rule of thumb is 300 dpi. It technically depends on your output device, but a general all around rule (you can get excellent output from all devices) is 300 dpi (at the size you'll output it at). Anymore and it becomes a deminishing returns kind of thing.

I hope my late night babble helped :D

regards,

alan

Depends on monitor size. 19" or larger 1024x768 and up. 17" mostly 800x600. 15" and smaller 640x480.

768x1024

I'm not sure if ACStudio's reply about dpi is relevant or not, but for the record, I concur with his statement.

800 X 600 High Color {16 bit}

I don't have a clue to what Alan is talking about.:p :rolleyes: ;)

Thanks for everyones help :) I was figuring 800x600 to be the average and that seems to be about right.

Alan, you are of course correct. My error was using the term 'resoulution' when I actually meant 'screen area'. By the way, what screen area do you folks on a Mac view web pages at?

Just for fun I set my screen area as high as it would go---everything got so small I could barely read it!:D

I don't know about the 16 bit vs. 32 bit color setting though. I'm not gonna mess with anything until it stops working!;) :D

I'm afraid to change anything. I'd probably get it like Rob did except be unable to get it back. If it ain't broke I don't fix it.

Why do you want to know this information? Is there a 800x600 club out there? Maybe you work for the government and want to put all the people who don't use 800x600 into a re-education camp.

I'm on to you :mad:

:rolleyes: :)

"Maybe you work for the government" :D

...Me? ...Moi? 'Naw, I'm much too nefarious and insidious in my ways for them. Lets just say I'm starting work on a project and need a representative sampling as a baseline. Thanks :)

If the project is a web site then you probably should optimize it for 800x600. That seems to be the norm for such things. I would go into more detail, but I'm working on a review right now;)
