Opps... my bad
That's what I get for reading things too fast late at night.
Macs have a couple of different weird ones available, but I generally use 800x600.
From my web design courses:
You are "supposed" to design your web site to work for the lowest common denominator of your viewing audience. I never suscribed to that theory, which got me into a lot of trouble with the university when I was in charge of the Athletics web site. I kept pushing back their "standards" which were determined by a programer with no design experience way back in '95.
Anyway, instead of limiting yourself to 640x480 (like the above rule would dictate) I'd go for the 800x600 size. Most 17" monitors and larger will handle that comfortably. The ones who are till using 15" monitors will just have to scroll around to see each whole page (both sideways and up and down). The average life span of a monitor (in my experience) is about one day after the warranty expires, or in my case 2 years and one day. With the prices of monitors dropping every day, most folks should be up to a 19" soon enough.
You will let us know when the project is done won't you??
