Barb and I swore we would never have another dog after we lost Lady some seven years ago, but the old saying goes, "Never say never." ainnit?:D

"Ace" was in the WCSPCA and up for adoption and I have been looking for a Rat Terrier for about six weeks now.
We brought Ace home with us yesterday and he is settling in nicely!!!!
Actually Barb and I are absolutely amazed at how well Ace is adapting to his new home.
Another one saved from euthanasia!!!! Support your local animal shelters!!!!
And spay and neuter your pets!!!!

Looks like a great choice.

(What IS the sound of one dog... Never mind.)

Are you sure that young feller has enough tongue? I don't suppose he'll have much trouble drinking what ever he wants too.:)

Yvsa,

Congratulations! I've never met a dog I didn't like! ( Wish I could say the same for Humans:rolleyes: ) All of the dogs I had growing up were the certified pound mutts. They were great. My Wife and I are on the brink of getting one ourselves. I thought the above quote was quite neat, so I thought you might like it. I definitely think you live up to the last line ;) .

Definitely a cute little pup. MIss my little guys, and don't have room for one in apt(plus not home enough to give a dog time and love he deserves)

COngratualtions. Once you become a dog person, it never goes away, no matter how much you claim you wn't get another one

Yvsa,
I'd say that's one lucky dog. He's in a great home now, and he'll make you both happy. What a great holiday celebration!

Happy Thanksgiving to you all out there in HI forum land, and especially to Uncle Bill and Yangdu.

Prettier than any rez dog I've seen.

Yeah, and he's too skinny to eat. :p ;)

Ace is still adapting extremely well!!!! I think he may have been abused by a man as he is still jumpy around me, but he's doing better. I had Ace playing a bit of tug of war this morning, but he doesn't like it when I growl at him.:)
We're really happy that Ace is not a barker or a howler. The dog next door howls every time an emergency vehicle goes by on the freeway nearly a mile a way and starts howling before any of us can even hear it!!!!
Ace just looked puzzled at first and now just ignores him. Ratties are supposed to be smart and able to learn fast. Ace hasn't disappointed us yet.:D
He's also learned that he is gonna get plenty to eat. The first two days he gobbled everything I put down for him. This morning he left about half of it so I guess I finally got his little belly full.

Pappy he does have a tongue and a half it seems like!!!!:D

Now if I could just train Ace to run rabbits to me instead of running them to ground I would be all set!!!!
Al I would have to do is drive up to the hunting area, let Ace out and stand by the car while he went and rounded the bunnies up and chased them to me.:D
Lazy man hunting!!!! ;) :D

Tell the truth, Yvsa...Did you choose Ace or did Ace choose you? I know how those things work!! :D Congratulations - great save!

Well actually this time I chose the dog instead of the other way around.:)
I know how these things work too as I have had that experience in the past.
But from the time I first saw Ace's pic until I wrote inquiring about him was about a week as we were really wanting a little female.
But I kept going back and looking at Ace and finally showed his pic to Barb.
She liked his looks at first glance so that was a big plus.:D
Then it was almost a week until we were able to go see Ace.

When we went to look at Ace he was a different animal. He was with two other dogs that barked and consequently Ace was barking too and this was after his foster mom said he rarely barked. I knew that if we got him away from the other dogs he might behave differently and he did.
When we got him to the shelter he laid down in a back room and was content.
The ladies at the shelter were remarking at what a change Ace had gone through. Ace was fostered about three weeks and was in the shelter about a month I think they said.
Seven weeks can be a significant time in making an animal more secure and less afraid.
Life on the street for dog or man isn't any fun.:(
What's worse is when someone dumps an animal in the country!!!!
If they don't die from the coyotes, starvation or exposure they are often shot.
Just goes to show that indeed, some people need killin!!!! Actually anyone that would dump an animal is less than human in my book and damn sure aren't -real- people!!!!

Thanks!!!! I just noticed your avatar. Your puppy looks similar to a Rattie. May I ask what stock he/she is from?
I can see that look that says, "You want me to what?!?!?!?":D
Just like a Terrier, but then many other dogs have similar trait's.
