The edge of my dinner plate works well at getting the edge back, especially after clanging it against the hard plate when slicing through steak. Also the sides and/or lip of a ceramic coffee cup work well too.
Ive had good results with sharpening convexed edges with this arched mousepad I put together from sliding glass door parts and scrap wood a while back. I saw one but couldn't find it for sale so I came up with this. It gives me way more control than a flat pad. I like it for sanding convexed blade sides to.
A stone found at the riverbank - aprox. 2" in diameter, rather flat and a little rounded and smooth from thousands of years with water and gravel rubbing it. Works greath on a dull knife.
