Ok those of you that know me know I love music.

I have not been around much in the last few weeks because I have been looking into pre-amps; well after listening to several that should be "good" I found one that is good... in fact it is OFF THE F'ING HOOK GOOD

Now this thing makes music :D So much so that I just smile:)

Sweet Tony! Uhh....do you have some kind of crazy house wiring to power that veritable sound station? :p There must be 30lbs in wiring back there :D Makes my ears buzz just thinking about it! I don't currently have anything going on with home stereo, but it's a borderline concert everytime I pop a cd (or Ipod) into my car stereo. Went with Polk, JL, and Eclipse. I spend more time in the car listening to music than I do at home ;) Whacha got in the car?

I don’t even know what is in the car:o :o but it sounds good.

I told my mechanic that I wanted a good care stereo and he just made it happen for me. In the car I just run an iPod and it is very good for that purpose.

But a while ago I had a friend over and she listened to the in home system and then we drove for about 5 hours, and she said that although she knew from the past that my car system was good it was like listening to an old mono radio after being in my living room... she said that in the living room the earth moved for her... even with her cloths on.

Must be SWEET ;) a suggestion on your car system: depending on what you drive, a subwoofer would totally change your stereo sound, makes everything sound better and if the bass is too boomy for you, you can either get a tuned/ported box, get a knob adjustment installed somewhere discreet, or if your stereo permits, control it with that. I have a 10'' JL W-7 in the car with a custom box...it's the difference between mono and stereo. I have 2 way competition Polk speakers front and back with two JL Tweeters mounted inside the doors...I basically get ALL my lower sounds from the sub and keep the door speakers/tweeters pumping highs and mediums. Everything sounds great from Sinatra to Jimi. I've got everything powered up with monster wire connects, two 30 amp fuses running from the battery, and two Polk Competition amps...one for the sub, and a weak one for the door speakers. I run two 5 farad power capacitors to the amps to avoid drawing virtually ANYthing from the car battery....it only takes you a couple days of blinking lights at night evertime the music gets loud to throw/charge up some of those in the car :p

That looks fantastic!

I was actually looking to get a nice little pre-amp for my modest audio setup (basically try to get the most out of my Grado cans) but being the cheap bastid that I am the best I could really bring myself to consider is a cmoy.

I dunno if I should try to build one myself or just pay the 50 bucks and get it pre-made off ebay.

:p:p:p

thats exactly what I just did after seeing that thing. I have a pair of Senn HD 280 pros that I would like to get just a bit more out of them and that looks like the best way to do it.

I went with a JL 10w6 for my car sub. I have an '04 Jetta, and that one sub can out-thump 2 12" anything if I want it to. Clarity is awesome, though, and when I change it up and listen to Grateful Dead, or Zep, it still sounds awesome. A good sub will change everything. The rest of the interior sound is powered by VW's premium Monsoon system, and I am very happy. A good head unit with an iPod adapter, a punch for the internals, one for the sub and a custom box...I'm pretty happy.

BTW...Tony, that home amp looks lovely. I haven't even started thinking about home sound yet because I want to sell and move further up north, but when I do, it'll take me awhile to piece everything together. : )

I run an NAD T762 (have to run a home theater there too, Grrrrrr!), Adcom disc player, with some nice Infiniti Kappas.

You've got me jonesing, though, for those Cary tubes and B&W Nautiluses I've been eyeing!!!

Congrats Tony!!!

Glad to see you picked one of those bad boys up...

Just wish I could hear what it sound like. :o

Yaaaauzzzzza, I could get me a lot of INFI or a nice car for the price of those babies!!!! Did you get them at Audio Image?

I'd also like to experience your soundsystem Tony.
Must be quite incredible feeling the earth move with clothes on:D

Lately I converted from solid state to vacuum tubes myself. I now drive my Dyn's S25 with a pair of Coplands. More "emotion" is the keyword for the changes this made.

Ducci, when I get tired of it I'll trade you for 14 BBSHSHs

Now why do you know them; Audio Image and VAC?

Sweet audio! Only thing I got is a Harman Kardon AVR7000, not so great in stereo but awesome in home cinema sound. What kind of speakers do you have?

I can't tell you everything about me!!!

Tony...where the hell do you find things like that?

Actually finding great audio is very hard. With the birth of home theater the consumer went to cinema sound and the market for high end audio just disappeared. There is a lot of BOOM systems out there for movies but not much for great music. As a consumer that is still into audio I have to drive all over the San Francisco area just to find a piece of high end equipment… especially tube stuff.

For example I wanted to listen to an Audio Research Reference 3 pre-amp and reference CD and I had to go all the way down to San Jose because the local Audio Research dealer won’t keep one around because he’ll only sell maybe two in a year. But he’ll sell hundreds of the lower end stuff in home theater applications, so he will not tie up capital in high end audio. San Jose isn't that far but 15 years ago I could find five places within 5 miles of my home.

Now days finding a guy that actually has VAC or Audio Research tube gear you can go listen to is actually harder than fining a 1-6 SHBM.:grumpy: :grumpy:

Well we did talk about dinner at Sushi Ran when you are in the Bay Area next. We could stop at my house for an ear full first.

I can't tell you everything about me!!!

Why not?

Jur T: The speakers are epiphany 6x6 pluses. They are a line array with two bass drivers on each side that run off their own internal amps. This is the only photo I have of them on my work laptop.
