Gossman's sig line is right. O1 is a kick ass tool steel!

I just received my Breeden 5" pathfinder. I had to spiff up the edge which did not take long then whamo. This knife cuts like...well...a sharp sharp knife. I was surprised.

I am going to be addicted to O1. I really want to try Gossman's PSK Sr.

This is not good not at all.

The pathfinder is a really nice blade. The geo on it makes for a great cutter. ALL the fuzzsticks this makes are unbelievable. Jeff H's kydex is great too!

This link is to the fuzzstick link where Breeden's pathfinder caught my eye.

Last year when I got my Nick Allen forum knife, it was my very first experience with O1. I was immediately hooked on it and have gotten several customs in O1 since then. I find it holds a great edge, is tough and is very easy to sharpen. I have been very tough on the NWA knife with no problems at all.

Just goes to show you, no matter what the latest "hot new steel" that's out there, the old tried and true steels will always stand out in the crowd. Gimme, O1, A2 or D2 and I'm satisfied.

I'm a big fan of 01. Its not cheap either, so feel good. You got a great knifesteel there. (It was designed for edged tools, btw.)

psy-ops glad you got it and glad you like it. 0-1 is just a neat steel.
Have fun and take care.

I will write more on it later. Right now I am having fun with it.

Great work Bryan

My first two in O1 were from Scott and I was sold in a very short time.
When I saw Bryan was using it, it was a big plus in my decision to try one of his too. Great stuff. I have a Tee-Shirt that says so.:D

Oh, and "thanks," Psy-Ops!

I just recently got an O-1 blade from Brian Goode and its incredible. Toughness is way up there and though I haven't done any formal testing its edge retention only seems to be noticeably bested by the D2 I have. With minimal effort it takes an insanely sharp edge, it is probably the sharpest knife I own right now. Seems like a great steel for the woods, I can imagine that sharpening it with some pond silt on a piece of wood would get you a hair splitting edge in no time at all.:thumbup::thumbup:

Scott, please help me. I need a knife for the Oregon coast that won't need constant rust proofing. Which of these steels would be best for that? I keep looking at D2 but I want to be sure.
By the way, on your website there is I believe a tusker with a Brass guard. Do you make that in D2?
Sorry for temporarily hijacking the thread for my personal questions. "I'll hang up and listen off the air thank you".

I've been enjoying a sharpened piece of O1 steel a certain Bryan Breeden sent me a while back. It does indeed sharpen very easily, much nicer than some of the super-hard stainless steels I'd been using before getting some carbon steel blades. Have yet to use this knife enough to see about edge retention, though.

D2 is the most resisitant to rust but will still rust if not taken care of. I stopped making larger knives out of D2 because it's very time comsuming finishing of them. D2 is so wear ressitant after HT. It's a pain to work a large blade. Anything 5" or under I will do in D2.

Thank You. That gives me something to think about.

I have guys all the time ask me when I will use other steel than o-1. I say why!! :)

We started selling tool steel at my real job and O-1 is by far the best seller, and I'm referring to knife makers and not just tool and die guys either.

I really like the results that I get with O-1. It truly does hold it's edge for quite a long time.

Nick:)

O1 was my first steel that i bought to work with (from nick, coincidentally) and i found it very nice steel, not too hard to work with, and i am getting a good hardness and edge sharpness from a novice heat-treat.

just by the way, the steel that nick sells is great stuff, i have more on order from him right now. very good, cleanly ground stock.
