Signed a hand receipt for it this morning, compact, light, and lethal, a perfect match for my 15" Sirupati. "It" is an M-4 carbine with an M-68 optic sight (read that Aimpoint red dot). It's a fine weapon, and well proven, I'm glad they showed up in time. Between it, my 9mm side arm, and my Sirupati, I should be able to give good account of myself if need be. Can't wait to get on the range Friday and sight in that carbine. Funny thing, it's a pretty high tech weapon, but in spite of it's stubby barrel and telescoping stock it's still fitted with a bayonet lug. A sober reminder of where this rifle's made to be used.

Sarge,

Can you explain (to a VERY layman) what a Rail Interface System is?

Thanks,
Joe

Think of the rail interface system as a fancy scope mount that accepts a variety of optic sights and night vision devices. The RIS is that set of rails you see along the top of the upper receiver. Note, my guys didn't get the ACOG sight illustrated, ours have the M-68 Aimpoint CQB (close quarter battle) sights that are good out to about 300 meters.

Ardvark,
it is a rail on the guard around the barrel to hang all that stuff on.

Really neat!
See that IR pointer/illuminator? You can "light up" targets and the only way you can see it is with NVGs. Of course, if they have NVGs too...watch out. But Iraq dosent field them on a large basis, but I am sure a few commercial versions are here and there.:D

That would be a problem Uncle, but you know I'd bring myself to the convention if I could.

Two Words, Sarge: Tas - Tee! Does it come with a CQB type sling? I've got one for my AR-15 & it's the cat's PJs for weapon transitions or carrying it slung behind your hip. Very nice, and here's hoping it serves you well.

Yup Craig, CQB sling and all. Already had some troopies asking, "Sarge, why is this sling so long?". Naturally I told 'em, "so you can carry it like a purse boys". They'll figure it out once we start toting 'em full time, first we got to sight 'em in.

Neat Toy Sarge.:D

Reminds me of the Shortened version of the AK47 I used to carry......

But thats another story..;)
