My friend from College, Natasha, needs your prayers. She has been reciving prank calls to her dorm and her family thinks it's some on who hurt her when she was younger. With her permision, we are asking for prayers on her behafe. I know that prayers work so, please help.
Thanks.

Prayers sent, Now Get Her A Gun! (With proper training, of course) The old severely right wing pro-gun slogan comes to mind, " No One Ever Raped a .38!"

Seriously, a handgun in .38 special or 9mm loaded with frangible ammunition would work wonders in close quarters (ie dorm room distances) with Federal Hydra-shocks for out and about use, would give her a great layer of protection and peace of mind. For deterring crime, a gun in the hand is worth a hundred in the hands of the police. Please talk to her about this possibility, Wildman. Most people go through life with their head in the sand thinking, "Bad things can't happen to me, they happen to other people". WRONG! It is this denile that just perpetuates the criminal/victimization cycle. "Bad People" prey on the helpless. They are cowards who don't want to be hurt, so that is why they perpetrate their crimes on those they perceive won't fight back.

If your friend Natasha takes prudent precautions (READ: arming herself) She puts herself on an even playing field with this !#@$%&**.
Once Johnny Maggot knows that this kitten has claws (and ain't afraid to use 'em) he'll probably disappear.

Sorry about the Tirade, but as you can see, I feel very strongly about people being able to defend themselves. Around my ranch the Motto is "Repel all Boarders". I hope Natasha adopts a similar attitude.

I agree with Craig that she should arm herself. And I agree that proper training is very important. But what is most important is developing the "mindset" to use deadly force if necessary. Your friend has to have the "will" as well as the "way" to defend herself.

Good luck and she is in my prayers.

Prayers sent Heber. Yep, she needs to be able to defend if necessary. Hope it doesn't come to that though!

Take care,

Rob

She's got mine Heber. I've had a couple college friends go through the same thing with old boyfriends and stalkers. This time in our lives is suppose to be a time for personal growth and for the quest for knowledge, not pointless personal terrorism. It's not fair to her or anyone for that matter. She's in my thoughts.

I couldn't agree more, Semp. A person could have the best, state of the art training, and it would be to no avail unless the brain was switched on to use it. I hope for Natasha's sake that she has a stronger "Fight" rather than "Flight" instinct.

My prayers are being sent.

Of all the things that happen in the world the people who prey on women and children in any way are the worst kind!

She is also in my thoughts. She needs protection, I think every women does in this day and age. My wife carries a Sig/Sauer 239 in 9mm and she used it once on a man that ment her great harm. She knows how to use it and is a NRA certified shooter and I know she can take care of herself when I can't be there. I pray every day for God to keep her safe.

Prayers on their way.

A weapon and proper mindset do go a long way, but don't neglect to contact the police and phone company. And do listen to their advice. This person is a criminal who needs to be prosecued and punished within the law. Who knows, he may share a cell with someone who helps him understand that some things are just not nice, if you catch my meaning.

Wildmanh,
If she is uncomfortable with a firearm, or living in a dorm for the time being, I am sure you know some goodies to get her. However, I am sure we courteous gentlemen of the HI forum would be happy to hook her up if need be.;)

Prayers sent.

Every thing has been said that need be about arming her and the training and mind set. Now let her pick the weapon of her choice. She must feel comfortable with what ever she plans on useing for defense. If not she might as well carry a rock in her purse.

My wife carried an 8" hat pin for many years but, now carries a boot knife and a home made cane. :)

Today, I showed Natasha this post and she sends her "thanks". Kept an eye on her last night and things are going a little better for her today. Please keep the prayers coming.

BTW a friend called the cops last night and informed them of the situation.

Found out that she just started a self defence class taught at the college. Guns/pistols are not alowed on campus, but large folders are.:) The LEOs teaching the class even recommend them, especially the SOG PE II.:) So, if she ends up getting something sharp and pointy it will most likely be the PE II.:)

Thanks guys!

Herber,

Prayers are going out for your friend. On the topic of weapons, don't rule out our wonderful line of HI products :) The DO have a tremendous OH SH@! effect on bad guys when presented :D

I can't think of anything more effective in a blade at the moment. I carried my 16" AK in my backpack to work and school for six months without anyone knowing.

Just my .2 :)

Alan

(actually, that's .02 after taxes)

IMHO an excellent reference:
"Principles of Self Defense" by Jeff Cooper / Paladin Press 1989
ISBN 0-87364-497-2
about 50 pages, short and to the point, says it all.

Blessings and prayers sent.

To condense Pragitam's suggestion: Herewith are Cooper's Seven Principles of Self-Defense ( just because I memorized them over 20 years ago and can still recite them without looking them up ).

I ) Alertness
II ) Decisiveness
III ) Aggressiveness
IV ) Speed
V ) Precision \ Accuracy
VI ) Ruthlessness
VII ) Surprise

.......................................

I also wanted to mention I've a high pitched voice often mistaken over the phone for a woman's. I received those kind of calls in college ( but living in off campus apartments ) until on the very last call I ever got I picked up my empty Colt SAA put it to the mouthpiece and said "Come on over" and drew it's hammer back to full cock - click, click, clickclick! Sudden sound of dialtone.

especially the SOG PE II

I have one of those and carried it every day until I got the Gunting (still do on some days anyway). That is one BIG folder!!!! I like to open it by starting the blade out with my thumb and flicking my wrist--it makes a loud, satisfying SNAP! when that big ole blade swings into full lock. It makes almost anyone say "Damn! that's a big one" of course I'm used to hearing that from the ladies;) (I only wish they weren't talking about my a$$;):D)
