OT: Ray's Salmon

Nice fish, Ray! Had to be a blast to land on that tackle!

The Kings/Chinook are starting to get the "hook" and go into their pseudo-pre-spawn here in Lake Michigan. A friend brought me an 18 pounder and a 22 pounder last week. They hadn't developed any softness, yet, but they are at that stage where they turn black quickly when pulled from the water.

Dang, I miss fishing..... but, I live vicariously through fotos like this. Thanks, Mark!

Thanks, Mark!

This was by far the largest fish I've caught in fresh water. We had a scale but there was no batteries in it but I'm guessing it was at least 30 pounds. It was quite a thrill for an old man! I caught it on the Columbia River, about a half mile below the Bonneville Dam. Thats Washington in the back ground. This was one of those "Third time is a charm trips". Hope to get asked to go out again before the weather makes it's change. I guess I could get hooked pretty easy on this type of fishing pretty easy if this happened everytime........ :D

There are very few thrills in life that equal catching a big fish on small tackle. Accept for maybe catching a new girlfriend :)

Holy cow, RAY! That is one fine fish, brother. Smoke it with alder and slather some of IG's relish on it... GOOD TO GO! :D

Jeff, I've had a smoker for a number of years but really never had anything to try it with. Maybe I'll give it a try. Did eat a little of it last night and it was a real treat. Funny, I moved up to the Northwest not quite 30 years ago and thought I'd be fishing almost all the time. Well things don't always go the way you dream they would but this sure didn't hurt any.

An even bigger feat with small tackle!!!! ;)

(Sorry! One of us ol' pervs had to say it! Not casting any aspersions.....!)

DUDE; Pack some of that in dry ice and send it this way. :D ;) Got the new crop for relish and it would be a good taste test. ;) ;)

I was wondering if anybody would make the connection. We must be brothers in brainwaves Mike :)

Growing up in San Diego alot of my money went towards fishing tackle. Talking about light fishing gear things really have changed a bunch. Fishing is something were modern tech. has really changed things alot. The small reels and poles of today are really alot bigger than they look. Remembering back girls were alot easier to hook than a big fish. Think my wife would prefer me messing with a big fish. I ain't as cute as I used to be either so I've given up on the other........ :)

Catching girls with small rods and lite tackle, never did interest me unless they owned or had access to a good Bass boat. Nice looking fish Ray, he sure looks like he's been deceased for quite a while though, you sure there wasn't a fish market there close by. :D Man, when your hot your hot. ;)

Bill

Bill, Before the fish comes out of the net there cold cocked. SHE was very much alive when she was on the end of my line. Did you notice how large the shoulders are on this fish?

Wonderful fish Ray and what a beautiful place. Glad there are still places like that in the world.

I can olny wonder how good it will taste! Salmon is one of my preferred no matter how it is prepared.
Enough fun, Ray! Now get back to the shop and show us some more knives!

Ivan, No knives or hawks for awhile. Need to get my shop finished before the rains come. Hope to have it done in a couple weeks. Spent the biggest part of the day digging a ditch by hand. Now thats fun!

Ray, perhaps if you plant the fish head at the foot of the ditch and go fishing again, when you come back there'll be a new shop grown in???

Just a thought, and, no, I ain't been drinking or smoking anything 'cept the Merits. :D I've been watching Chuck's sheath video.....

Nice fish Ray.
How'd ya prepare it? We serve a couple of salmon a week that are about 15 pounds each. It's great to live on the coast where we get FRESH fish.
