OT: Ray's Salmon

Tom, I pretty much leave the preperation to my wife. What we had the first night she just spiced up, wrapped it in foil and then let it bake in the over. I used to like cooking different things when I was younger before the microwaves came out. I think they destroyed some brain cells........

Ray,
That's a pretty nice fish, a bit smaller than we are used to catching here in SW Washington, though. ;) :D
The next time you catch a fish (trout, salmon, steelhead) and do not have a scale to weigh it on you can get a very close estimation of it's weight by the following formula:

Length x girth² / 785---all measurements in inches.

This usually gives a weight that is a few ounces light, but is a lot closer than my eye balls can guess.
My first fish, this past month (out of my back yard river here) was 43" long with a girth of 25.5". This formula said the fish should weigh 35.6 lbs, my scale weighed it at 35 lbs, 15 oz.

Conrats on that big, beautiful fish!

Ray,
Castle Rock is about 10 miles north of Longview. I'm about half way between the two--45 miles from Portland.

I had a friend ask me about the fishing here last night and I sent him a link to this. Anyway I thought this would be nice to look at again.....

something's not quite right with that picture....
you forge with sandels on...and fish with boots on??? :p
nice fish brother! :D

Doc, It was more like a hit-and-run. She put up a darn good fight but I wasn't about to lose.

Chisel, Can't remember forsure but I think it was around 7am and being the middle of September its pretty nippy at that time. Surprizingly when I forge with the sandles I usually get burt once per knife.

Wonderful fish Ray and what a beautiful place. Glad there are still places like that in the world.
Don you sure got that right!

What a fish Ray! That had to be a blast landing that baby - I bet she had you guessing a couple times. I've never had a fish that big on the end of anything, but it's fun imagining it. You earned your break, now rest a bit before you finish that shop.
