A buddy just gave me an old leather jacket and told me I could cut it up to make stuff. It's distressed pigskin, soft, and in a shade of khaki brown that's a natural for desert camo. Sweeeet. Guess whose 15" Siru is getting a custom scabbard cover? No hasty wrap with 100 mile an hour tape this time. Easy bit of work, stretch it tight, sew one seam up the back, trim off the excess and slip the frog back on. Two beers and one half hour news program ought to do it. Hey, a blade by the royal kami himself rates more than duct tape don't it?

Check your local thrift shops for old leather jackets. Good hides just waiting to be harvested.:D

All the deer hunters we have here could have loads of great hides if they would brain-tan the hides they get.:p
Smoking the hide is optional.;)

My wife gets awful upset with me sometimes. A pair of worn out boots get the tops cut off and another piece from the ankle to the toe. What is left the trash man can have. Yea, she gets pretty upset with the pack rat but, when she needs something fixed that will last a while the tune changes. Most of the project I have done were with used leather.
Right Munk? :) :D

In the attic I have about 10 garbage bags full of mostly 1/2-gal plastic milk bottles.
SWMBO was on the verge of throwing a real fit
until I decided to use some of these for packing material
after I ran out of recycled 'peanuts'.
They worked great and her brother complemented me on my ingenuity;
and implied that he'd be putting a few aside for this use.
I can ride that complement till summer,
then I'll have to justify keeping the additional bags I'm accumulating.
Maybe I'll insulate the attic with them.
Seriously.

I don't know about blue suede shoes, but I got me some bright red suede that would look nice under a set of brass accents around the edges.

Ok Im pretty pack-ratty, and I guess all I need is another thing to stow away, but Ddean you got me curious why all the 1/2 milk jugs?

You ever try and MAKE a half-gallon milk jug? It's hard!

And they are good for stuff...eventually.
