OT: smoking

I've been off cigarettes 2 1/2 years now. Patches, and Wellbutrin, several months.

What I hate to tell you is that after nearly thirty years I'd quit numerous times for weeks to a month or two, but always ended up lighting up once again after a beer or two.

It was only after several years off the booze that the stopping cigarettes finally took.

The alternate, I suppose, is about 85 bucks for lessons, 39 bucks to the DMV-PS for background check, and 60 bucks to the Wahoe County Sheriff, and a jola to carry your Official Police next time you end up in St. Marys hospital.

DELETED/ EDITED Oh yes, got the state report on my complaint against the hospital today. I came back and deleted several paragraphs as defamatory but true, and also being woefully inadequate to describe the least of my true feelings.

Gentlemen, I have stayed out of the political and religious discussions on this forum ...and with good reason; intellectually, I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer, nor am I well read enough to make insightful commentary. But since you've walked into my backyard (healthcare), I will NOT hold back my thoughts! Yes, you have the right to live your life as you see fit. I, also have my right to give a d@mn and speak my mind. Further, I WILL hammer you mercilessly as long as this thread continues!

Tobacco smoking and it's active ingredient nicotine, KILLS PEOPLE! Whats so hard to understand about that!? I have cared for patients in all stages of cardio-pulmonary/cancerous disease and its not until they are sucking 60% O2 through a venturi mask and counting the minutes until the next Albuterol treatment that their own mortality seems to confront them? Using tobacco is a piss poor way to commit suicide. Ahhhh what the hell, I'll even share an inside joke with you. I mean why not? If nothing you've seen or heard in your lives so far has dissuaded you, then this macabre humor won't even make you blink. 'Ya all know what Respiratory therapists and RNs call people who smoke? ...JOB SECURITY
:(

Bill, my rants have nothing to do with you.
You know there are people in hospitals who should be reported to the ASPCA for the way they take care of their pets but get away with worse treatment of their people patients.

(Incidentally, the first child abuse case in the US was a girl whose father was prosecuted under animal treatment laws, as there were none against maltreatment of children at the time.)

"Bill, my rants have nothing to do with you"

I know that Rusty :) I was typing as you posted and therefore never read your post until afterwards...

My mother, a lass from Missouri, smoked at least two packs a day for many years. She used a homegrown method to quit a number of years ago. It stuck, as she does not smoke now.

Instead of patches or commercial nicotine gum, she would buy regular gum and the chewing tobacco in the little round cans. Then she would dip the chewed gum in the tobacco and chew away. She did this instead of cigarettes for a couple of years, then she just dropped the gum with little effort.

Bill, thanks for caring.

I know that I (or anybody else for that matter) shouldn't be smoking and understand the risks fully but I rely on genetics. Dad will be 90 in Feb. -- been smoking 75 years and still at it, carton a week.

And I discovered my pulmonary tests that I took a couple of weeks back at the VA hospital showed better lung function than 90% of the vets my age -- smokers and NON smokers. But, I've only been smoking about 55 years.
