Ot: Snow!!!

Another Wisconsinite checking in here. I'm glad it's snowing, and agree with the sentiments for 3-4 feet of it by christmas. I've got the money saved up for a snowmobile, and want a good reason to buy one after last years pitiful snowfall.

It's interesting that you guys are mentioning Neenah and the Foundry, I've got lots of friends who work there.

How many HI Fans do we have here in WI? It's interesting just how small the WWW can be at times, isn't it?

Ryan

I figured that Ryan was maybe not only Crazy, but Crasier than Hell or maybe just young if he likes the snow that much.;)

Maybe it's both, after checking out his profile Ryan's only 22 fer cryin out loud.

I used to like it myself when we lived next door in Minnesota, but then I was only 12-13 back then and didn't have to drive in it or work outside.
Somehow it was fun to slip on two pairs of jeans, come in after sking or otherwise playing in the snow, take the outside pair off and stand them in the corner as they would be froze solid from the knee down.

Edit:
Then when I was Ryans' age I drove in the nasty Oklahoma Freezing Rain and snow to get out in the fields to rabbit hunt.

One year I shot an Oklahoma Jack Rabbit, a rarity in this part of Oklahoma. A bunch of us big ol' boys was out hunting on a really cold day. I layed the rabbit on his back and adjusted his legs so that he looked like he would standing up after he froze.
We came back that way a few hours later and found the jack frozen solid.
One of the guys got the idea of standing the jack out in the middle of the road, propped him up with a stick while we made another pass through the feilds we had hunted earlier in the day as we knew we had missed a few rabbits the 1st time through.
Not long afterwards some ol' boy came along in his truck, saw the jack and stopped.
He got out and pulled his .22 from the rack in the back window, took a stance and braced himself on the door of his truck and fired. The ol' jack went for a tumble while we was all way up on the hill laughing our asses off.
The good ol' boy jumped back in his truck, drove down to the fallen jack, got out walked over to it, picked it up and discovered it froze!!!!:)
It was funnier than anything as he looked around and spotted us good ol' boys up on the hill laughing our asses off. He throwed the jack in the back of his truck and ambled on off into the sunset.
Must've been really hungry.;)

When I was a young nut living on the wheat farm on the north side of Kansas I thought a winter just wonderful. Now that I've been to the jungle in different places I don't want snow unless it is going to be melted about an hour after it has fallen.
I've been through that going to the house and taking off all the outside clothes and stand them in the corner. Seems they didn't have snows in Kansas back then, just blizzards
I can remenber snow where you couldn't see any fence posts at all. It thawed just enough that night that Gramps and I could drive the old Model A all the way to town on top of the crust. I don't want any more of that.:)

Took this pic out my bedroom window a couple of days ago:

As you can see, the lake is starting to freeze over.:)

I have seen -66C and +55C, and I think I like the heat. Working in the arctic for the past 8 years has really sharpened my appetite for heat and sunshine. 6 months in West Australia was like paradise to me.

Now I am thinking of spending a few weeks in Arizona next spring to get my warmth fix. I was thinking of Nevada but I want to shoot cacti in bloom. Would anyone know what the best time of year to do that would be?

Thanks,
Phil

Snowed Wednesday in my part of Minnesota, but it all melted on contact with the ground. Made driving frustrating though. Somedays you gotta wonder about some of the guys on the road, they act like they bever seen snow before:mad: Anyhoo heard rumor that it snowed further north of where I was this weekend, but was in South East MN all weekend, so besides cold no snow spotted.

I for one like the cold. That is coming from someone who drives at least 150+miles a week, and has pulled very cold days out working. Then again, unlike some silly people, I have no qualms at actually dressing for the weather. I will wear long underwear, and my carhart jacket is still waiting for its overalls. Im always amazed at the silly people who complain about the cold, but will wear a coat that I dont deam fit for fall, let alone winter. And all this coming from a person whose parents came from an extremely hot and humid tropical locale, for reasons I still dont rightly understand.

I agree with Frederico, a lot of people don't dress right for cold weather. I wear a very thick wool jacket and when I venture out into the woods I wear long underwear and thick wool pants. I generally don't have a problem with cold weather, but then again as Yvsa pointed out I'm still young, maybe when I get older my fondness for cold temps and snow will change.

We'll get one good snow, maybe two, this winter here in Reno and that is plenty for me. One will probably come next week when I'm trying to get moved.

WELLL. ... at least it keeps the growth cycle of the insects down to managable levels. WE don't have cockroaches the size of labradors here :D

Snow here in western SD today! The dog loves it! The cats aren't quite sure about it yet. ... me, its just another season (and we need the moisture).
