OT: The Sargent says "Thank you"

Great stuff from a fine and generous man. The spirits of Uncle Bill and Rusty live on. There is no question about that.

Steve has most generously put up for raffle some of the finest pieces HI has ever produced. So, please, get into the act, folks. For the price of four gallons of gas you could WIN! an amazing kukri! (And, even if you didn't win, your karmic quotient would be greatly improved ;) ).

P.S. - Maybe you have a friend who's a doctor, and needs a little charitable deduction to offset the gasguzzler tax on the new Bentley :D

And if you're from California, that's only THREE gallons of gas! (-:

The 1975 BMW R90/6 gets about 45 miles per gallon. It has carburetors (kahr burr ey turs).

So, one raffle ticket equals approximately 180 miles.

Of course, if you want to come back home, you need to buy a second raffle ticket.

er...I gotta stop mixing cold medications.

nevermind.

Even more !!! Better and better!!! Gifts galore !!!

Steve is a great guy, and the other donors deserve our respect.

The update I got today from Mr. Birthday Boy Ferguson:

Hello friends,

Great things happening, all due to your help! As of this minute we have
raised $1308.12!!! Also, we have enough raffle entries to now have 3
drawings, so your chances to win something never get below 40:1 for each
ticket.

Also, we have received another donation of knives. Littleknife from the
forum has donated a group of fixed and folding blades. I've put them into 3
groups. Each group will be available as a single prize. If not picked by a
winner, we will sell them outright on the forum. All of these are either new
or very lightly carried. Thanks Littleknife!
They are:
Group 1: Leatherman Micra, Old Hickory carbon steel slicer, Eriksson Mora
carbon steel Swedish knife (and it's a sweet little cutter) and a Coleman
CM705M congress folder with micarta scales
Group 2: Kershaw Scallion, and a very nice Buck Creek 4 1/4" carbon steel
stockman with red jigged bone scales, made in Solingen Germany.
Group 3: A Cold Steel Kobun with an AUS-8 blade (NIB)

Thanks folks, we are getting there!

$10 is about 6 liters of gasoline here in Italy. :p

We're getting down to the wire... I'd encourage everyone to send a $10 to the fund to help Ram out. It's definitely for a good cause, and any ex students can surely relate to Ram's education adventure in Latvia... :)

From Steve:

I printed out the names and addresses of all the raffle participants, and cut them up. Put in a paper grocery bag, with the bottom flaps taped shut to prevent any from hiding, and stirred and crinkled them up for at least 5 minutes, so they would be as random as humanly possible, and not stuck together. My lovely wife Fredie did the honors and picked the following names.

1. Dan D, Brother-in-law of Bri in Chi!
2. Forum member TSF!
3. Dr. Bob, Brother of Berkley!
4. Forum member Aardvark!

Congratulations to all of the winners and thanks so much to everyone who helped out! Final total was $1663.15 plus what we will get from the sale of donated items that aren't picked in the raffle.

Winners please contact me, so I can get your winnings boxed up and ready to ship. To choose what you want for your prize, check the thread on the fundraising forum for what is available. If you don't see something you want, and have something specific in mind, let me know, I just might have it!

What a remarkable group of generous people you folks are. You bless the folks who know you.

Be well and safe.

Congratulations to the winners! A nice chunk of change for Ram. And thanks Steve for generously putting up your knives! I hope we find out who is getting what.

Regards,

Norm

How cool is it that folks here sent the information for RAM's college fund to friends and relatives, who then participated? No matter what everybody says, these folks are decent human beinks.

1. Dan D, Brother-in-law of Bri in Chi! - Dhankuta
2. Forum member TSF! - Philippine Barong, WWII era
3. Dr. Bob, Brother of Berkley! - Foxy Folly, thin style!
4. Forum member Aardvark! - Chiruwa WWII donated by our own MS514

The ripple effect of folks' participation might go on for generations, influencing countless people.

(Tangential aside, but pertinent. Louis Armstrong, born in a bordello, had a job as a very young kid, carrying coal up to peoples' apartments for a jewish coal peddler in New Orleans. Armstrong saw a trumpet in a pawn shop, wanted, but couldn't afford it. One day, the coal peddler bought it for the young kid.

History changed by one act of generosity.)
