OT: Tokarev's are in

PZ93C
Thanks very much for the info about these TT-33's. I've been looking for a Russian Tokarov at a good price for a long time. I've had the Polish model in the past but didn't like the "hokey" add on safety. They shot well ...but just didn't look right.
My order is in the mail and I can't wait!
Thanks again!

I guess Fiocchi makes 7.62 Mauser ammo. I found an online source for $25/50 rounds. :barf:

BriChi-

I think you can shoot the Mauser Ammo in the 7.62 x 25 but you can get other ammo much cheaper. I just got 1200 rounds of Polish surplus for like 120. bucks for my CZ. the TT33 shoots the same cartridge

I just went to the web page again. They've jacked the prices up between 20 and 50 bucks per pistol  :(

I've shown this link to a friend who knows a bit about TT-33 history, and he mentioned something interesting.

1. Average price for original TT-33 is usually higher than offered
2. He noticed a "factory refurbished" mark on one of them. Typical procedure with this guns was to shoot the crap out of them, then send them out for factory refurbishing, and then either store them in warehouses or export them to friendly yet less advanced countries. Now, it was only in 1971 that they started imprinting those "factory refurbished" marks on guns. That gives you pretty good idea about the history of the gun.

I don't quite understand what you're saying here. Please speak your mind, this is the cantina, amigo. Are these a ripoff? Over-priced, refurbished junk? What? I'd love to have a nice TT-33 but are you saying these are not worth the price - which was recently jacked up to $270, BTW!

I wouldn't say they are ripoff, see #1 - market price for original TT is actually over $300. I said just what I said - that it appears that the gun in the picture has been refurbished, and that refurbishing took place after 1971. Are they all? I don't know. Although I'd suspect that quality varies from piece to piece, because the guy charges extra for handpicking.

Another reason I can't call them ripoff or junk, is because I'm not sure just how good refurbished TT-s are. They may be comparable with those in original condition. Or not. It's a gamble in a way.

From what I have been reading they are really nice, but now that they cranked the price up I think maybe if you just wanted to shoot 7.62 X 25 if it might not be better just to buy a CZ52. Also I wonder if you wanted one for an investment if you wouldn't be better off to buy one of the unissued grade CZ 52's for 120 bucks and wait till they start going up. I'd like to get one of these but now with what my FFL guy would charge me it would be coming close to 300 and there's some other stuff in that price range I'd maybe rather go for.

I picked mine up for $189. in AZ. It's definitely a Polish TT dated 1954. The safety is unobtrusive.

I stay away from surpluss 7.62 x 25 due to the lack of consistency.
My TT loves Sellier & Bellot ammo which is about 6-7 bucks a box
it outshoots every cz-52 i've ever shot. really flat and fast!
The secret is in the heft of the all-steel beast!

What sort of a group can you shoot with it at 25y? Can you post a pic of a target? I keep wanting to get one of these if I could actually see a target shot at a comparable distance it might get me off the fence.

I called this morning and reserved my Russian WW2 Tokarev. Paid by credit card and got it at the old price.

As for refurbished Russians, I understand that they are very well finished and matching #'s. Thats good enough for me; I want a commie TOK without the gimmicks. My prized Polish TOK came refurbished - if you can call a lousy blue job over the pitting a refinish. It shoots great though even with the mickeymouse add-on safety.

My Russian should be here in about 10 days and I can't wait.

Though a refinish diminshes value, a military factory refinish/furbish is pretty standard with surplus arms. Most of the M1 carbines and Garands have been reworked at some point in their service lives. Certainly a refurbish by the Russians on Russian arms is preferrable to a Korean redo on US arms- like the imported carbines.
I don't know enough about pricing to comment.

I thought they looked neat.
I kinda wanted one.
I kinda want a lot of guns.

It came in yesterday. 1943 Izhevsk stamped matching on everything. Mags included. (no lineouts) Beautiful bore. Today, I'm a happy camper.

Man that new holster is tight. Especially the spare mag pouch.

I ordered on March 25th. It took two weeks from MO in the mail to delivery.

Pics.

Thanks, HD. If I had a photo editor, I'd be dangerous. ;)

Should be fun, though.
