OT: Treadmills

#1 have her try treadmill & elliptical on store display for a couple minutes

#2 stepping motion of elliptical should be gentler on joints than treadmil [?]

#3 buy from Sear's or other store with liberal return policy
so after using it for a few days you have an option to return/exchange

It turns out that the bike hurts her knees, and the wife needs an alternative form of exercise.

Ron Jeremy would turn all of us off!
Jewelry would work better.

The bike should be even lower impact than walking. Has she got it adjusted properly for height and all? Or is it just a poorly made bike? Beyond that, you never made mention of lower body injuries. No torn or inflamed ACL tendons or whatnot, right? It's kind of wierd on the internet, when you can't actually see the problematic workout/equipment in person.

Over the years I have owned three or four exercise bikes. Bought them all at garage sales for about ten bucks each. I really intended to get in shape. Never used any of them. Ended up giving them away or selling them at a garage sale for about ten bucks.

It wasn't a total loss because I did get a little exercise loading them into my truck and carrying them into and eventually back out of the house.

I have one now sitting in the kitchen that I bought about a year ago. With this one, the handlebars move as you pedal. That should give me a good workout. I plan to really use this one. I'm going to start tomorrow.
