OT: Water or Coke

This is why I always dilute my coke with several ounces of rum. One can't be too careful about your health.:D

Aren't the Quik-Trip cups the big ones that when you drink one you need to make a Quik-Trip to the can?

Our hospital has seen one case of suicide by drinking excessive water. Apparently the guy stood in the shower for about half an hour and drank everything he could swallow. The autopsy indicated he got so flooded that the connections between nerves could not perform their function and he just shut down. This happened about ten years ago and they are still referring to it at EMT refreshers.

Yvsa, have you tried sports drinks? They're loaded with electrolytes and some of the new Gatorade flavors are't bad. I like Riptide Rush myself, it's got a fruity flavor without being too sweet (I'll let you homophobes have all the fun you want with that sentence).

I'm not sure but I think a Quik-Trip is a generic form of 7-11. Should rememberas I probably filled the gas tank at one, but I drove from Tulsa to Texas and back in two days checking County courthouses and some things are still a blur.

Good grief!!!!! Couldn't he think of a more efficient method? I'm surprised he didn't explode first. Maybe that's what he figured would happen. Jeez, there's no accounting for poor taste. Unless he wanted to make his mark in history as the most unusual suicide. What a loser! :grumpy:

Yvsa, we don't want you to go to the hospital either. Take care of yourself. By the way, how is your daughter, she is in my thoughts along with you and the rest of your family.

Thanks for asking Red. She is doing as well as expected at this time.
I did get it out of her that the Drs have given her a
year.:( :grumpy: :(
But, then in 1984 the Drs gave me 5 years to live so they don't know everything.:grumpy:
I was going to post it after a few more tests come in. Seems as if there's a new chemotherapy that she can take without it killing her out right.
I'm hopeful and trying to keep Stella hopeful as well for all the good it seems to be doing.:(

Yvsa, what the heck is a Quik-Trip cup??

Sorry John, I forgot about different conveinence stores inhabiting different areas.:o
Quik-Trip is similar to Git&Go, Circle K, 7-11 Stores. It's basically a 32 ounce plastic go cup with a lid that you can drink out of that's common to all of the convienience or inconvienient stores.
Inconvienent because it's inconvienient to go anywhere else.;)

I drink my share of Coke along with most folks. It may be an old wive's tale, but a Coke will still settle my stomach when I'm a little, sometimes a lot, nauseous.
I had a dietian tell me it was because of the carbonated water, but no other soft drink will work on me like Coke does. :D ;)

Oh, yeah, I should have figured that it was some kind of Stop 'n' Rob. I used to drink a soda, of some kind, the minute I woke up in the morning. Friends tried to tell me it was for the caffeine, because back then I didn't drink coffee. But, like your dietian says, it was for the bubbles. A club soda works just as well, for me, to get that "burp of relief".

Last time I looked, the Vermont Country Store was still selling bottles of Cola Syrup as a remedy for upset stomachs. So it may not just be the carbonated water that's helping :)

It's the syrup not the carbonated water. It works.

Coke syrup was what they told me to take when I had morning sickness with my pregnancies. I found out that the extra sugar acts to suppress the reflex in your tummy and settle the nausea. It worked and that was great. I use gingerale to settle my daughters stomach when she feels sick now. It works well. Guess I'll have to dig out my ph strips and see what it's acid level is.

Well, it's obvious we're talking about different types of stomach "ailments". I'm not talking about nausea or an "upset" stomach. I'm talking about a bloated feeling, which is relived by bubbles in any kind of soda pop, and even baking soda in water.

For the type of thing you guys are talking about, my Mom always insisted on 7 up.

I recently picked up some COLA SYRUP
distributed by HUMCO (NDC 0395-0035-94)
at a local pharmacy or pharmacy aisle.
Four ounces (118mL) cost a couple of dollars.

Coke syrup old time remedy. 1964 stationed at FAF Lahr, Swartzwald, Germany. My first born was plagued with stomach upsets and ear infections. We only had a Detachment Medic for American Medical support , unless we traveled up to Karlsruhe, or further up to Heidelberg, where Mike was born.
With all due respect to the French forumites, we were leary of the FAF Medical Staff. Local German old fashioned Doctor, making house calls, recommended coke syrup, (even went and got some for us), Helped the stomach, but not the ears.

One of these days, I may relate the story of Mike's birth. or the ordeal we went thru when my wife's water broke at Lahr, trip to Baden Baden (Canadian Base) than on to Heidelberg. Stressful time, but I was in 7th heaven with my first born, coming out OK, and at the time, my wife, coming OK , also, but with a good case of ? Post birth syndrome? Really had trouble excepting new born? I sure did alot of walking the floor with Mike, while the wife was on Liebrieum (sp)

A friend sent me this Coke a few days ago. I tried the toilet thing and it didn't work. And my toilet is dirty enough any difference would have been noticeable. It wasn't.

A week or so ago, heard a newsreport about a fraternity pledge who died from drinking too much water. Sad.

Glad to see the frat boys are into healthy living these days. They used to use vodka or tequila to kill themselves. Maybe there is hope for today's youth after all.

Water is more fatal than Coke. Take any news source around you, and count and compare how many people were killed this year by water, and by Coke. Water is much, much more dangerous liquid than Coke even if you include Pepsi, Virgin, Dr. Pepper, etc. as Coke.
