Hi guys. I had sort of a problem on another forum yesterday. You think we get some trolls in here, check out Harmony Central. Anyway, this guy started a controversial thread, me a some other guys called him on it, he threatened to kill us. This guy was either a punk troll causing trouble or a genuine sociopath, you should have seen this guys posts. All the threads were pulled and I guess this guy got banned, but I want to know if there is any way to press charges against this guy. Like on this forum, I use my real name on that one, my email address would make it very easy to locate me. I am somewhat concerned. You can insult me all you want, I can take it. But a death threat should not be taken lightly. Bomb threats are treated like they are the real thing no matter what. Does this apply to death threats? How do I find out what I can do from here?

If I were you, I'd get in touch with the local LEOs ASAP. Nowadays, there is no room for error. There are psychos out there who will kill someone for cutting them off on the freeway! I'm sure that with the help of Spark and the guys at Bladeforums, this individual can be tracked/hunted down. It is not a laughable matter to threaten someone's life. Play it safe, contact the police!

The gentleman, Khukman gave you good advice. It sounds like there were plenty of witnesses to the threat. So, if you can find the guy my advice also is go rack this nut up. As a ex peace officer in California and Texas your are dealing with a terrorist. In Texas that is just what they call this charge. Terroristic Threat. Don't take any chances for a while, till they can catch this nut.
Good Luck. Keeep your powder dry!

I'm sure Spark has his IP address, which can very easily be traced back to his service provider, who can trace it to his account. Problem is, if he's using a public computer, then it will be virtually untraceable. In my humble opinion, BF has a duty to try to track this guy down.

I really sorry that happened to you:( I would take it seriously as well. Tell the cops, and refer them to Bladeforums folks in charge. I would take Uncle Bill's advice(I would substitute another gun for an antique .38 though;) )too.

What has happened to people that we can't have discussions anymore? Its like once someone gets mad they think they have to KILL someone!?!? What happened to speaking your mind, and maybe, maybe, getting in a fist fight? But now I personally don't even get in arguments with people (in person and maybe not online anymore)I don't know--you never know what "consequence free" type of idiot you will run into who will think nothing of putting some hollow points in your chest:(

Thanks guys. This did not happen at Bladeforums though, so Spark can't help me I guess. I have contact the Police and the website, I am awaiting further info. Like I said, I can take insults (and dish some back in return) but I take threats seriously.

As stated, go to your local LEO and get it reported. It is at least an assault charge (since you have concerns for your safety), but if I remember correctly, the individual has committed it on a federal level by using the internet (interstate use of phone/cable utilities to commit a crime).

In any case, go see the police. If they don't take an interest, contact your local FBI office and talk to them. They've got a lot on their hands right now, but I think they would have the jurisdiction federally. Their computer guys might have fun tracking down the individual and teaching him a lesson about being polite on the internet!

Good luck!

Alan

Packing.org notes Pennsylvania to be a "shall-issue" state. It appears to cost $19 application fee at this time.

Apparently no class or qualification is required. I didn't see a time limit for yea/nay decision.
You'd have to check it out yourself, but the $19 fee is a tenth of the cost for a Nevada CCW, which requires an 8 hour class, at about $100 including range fees, $60 to the county Sheriff in application fees, and a $39 Department of Motor Vehicles/Public Safety background check for a total of about $200.

I received my CCW card yesterday, and expect the process still ongoing to make significant changes in the way I view life and things in general.

The $200 overall cost has been worth it in what I've relearned whether or not I carry regularly.
A similar experience in personal growth happened when I took a Social Work methods class in Gerontology and our initial assignment was to complete a will for ourselves. Now that was like getting a glass of ice water in the face.

Also, I consider your question to be very on topic, as Uncle Bill puts it "What has this got to do with khukuris? Everything!" What is learned about living and preparedness to take a life or be killed applys to khukuries and pistols interchangeably.

I kinda wish we could settle it the old fashioned way, a duel. I would opt for the one like Jim Bowie had. A dark room, with no furniture, sand on the floor and a live rattlesnake. I would want us to go in wearing boxers and holding khukuries.;)

Really I don't want to but it sounds good.

Bout time! Glad to hear it finally came through:) Seems like its taken forever? How long from start to finish?

Made me feel different when I started carrying. Mostly made me twice as careful about avoiding trouble--figured any fight would be deadly while carrying if the other guy found out and went for my gun:eek:

Actually the first impression I had was that everyone in the world knew I had a gun. Felt like I was trying to conceal a 105 Howitzer:D

MauiRob,
Is there something wrong with trying to conceil a howitzer???

...I mean I bet you have to beat the ladies away with a stick!

LOL! :D

Wow! Just SUGGESTING that duel would win it for you if I was your opponent:eek: The more I think about that one the scarier it gets:eek:

"I use my real name on that one, my email address would make it very easy to locate me"

In a word, DON'T! You may or may not ever hear from that person again. But you can prevent yourself from feeling/being in this same position again. While using your real name seems like a noble, standup thing to do ...those that would exploit that info are not (standup or ethical). Never give out correct info on the WWW. Delete ALL your current accounts, E-mails. etc... that are in your real ID and assume a pseudo identity. Changing your handle isn't going to turn you into a troll -your self integrity wil prevent that. It's just one more safety stop in a world of diminishing privacy. You can always share your real name with people your comfortable with in more private communications (ex E-mail).

Also all those 'personal info questions' that companies ask you on the web before they allow you to doiwnload music/software -make $#!t up. I can not even guess how many times Bill Gates has downloaded files (thanks to a world wide effort to do so in his name :D ). All this info goes into databases that companies use to target advertising. Personally, I'm often an 65 yr. old African American woman, holding a Phd. in astrophysics, earning over $150,000 yr. and living in Nome Alaska (zip code 99762). ROTFLMAO, skews their demographics up all to #e!!

Personally, I live by the golden rule and carry a gun for those who don't.

It's a bad feeling to be caught flat footed when the feces gets fanned. TCB Bob!

I echo all that Paxton said. I'd also get a bullcrap hotmail or yahoo account for times when you need to give an email address. ;)
