OT: What can I do about a death threat?

YES, to the above, and watch the F'n cookies... delete reguarly, or get the ability to limit them. The biggest big brother may well be a corporate database somewhere....I fully endorse the cyber equivalent of "fold, spindle and mutilate"!! Corporate mergers of such companies are truly the stuff of nightmares.

Now, I've dated myself, they had cutting-edge vocational keypunch classes in my high school and I took a FORTRAN computer class where were we went to the community college to run keypunched programs on a machine with ferrite doughnut memory....that was as nearly as big as a coat closet and probably had the capacity of a floppy disc. There were humongous removable Winchester disc drives that you could put a portable radio near and tune in those old-time movie computer sounds. Drove the teacher banannas, so we did that a lot.

What a change, too bad the technology is mostly used for crap...Cynical, nostalgic outburst over now. But really do be careful, crooked b*st*rds are everywhere, since you can't know them, make sure they can't know you....Paxton has the right idea for sure. I just blow off most sites that want a lot of info, and turn off cookies if I'm "exploring" and purge cookies regularly, even if it means I have to re-enter a lot of passwords that it will take me a while to find again. Jeeze, even the local supermarket wanted my social security # for a discount card sign-up...NO WAY!!! I later got an unassigned one from a checker. No cumulative rebates, but I get the special prices. Just fine with me. Sheeeit, everything is as screwed up and fluxional as buying airline tickets from the phone companies to buying groceries....If I spent the time figure out who was screwing me for a few cents, how and what cost to avoid it, I wouldn't have time to even $H1T!! Now I'm ranting again, so I'll stop now. [pant, slobber, spit]

Like Bill said, keep us up to date, rkenny.

I for one want to know what happens to you just cause you are a fellow forumite.

For another, what happens to you is a good way to learn how and why we should behave online.

Hope you're fine, cause we haven't heard from you for a while.

( Contact me privately if you don't want to bring it out on the forum. )

Update,
I contacted the police. I got the expected "there really isn't anything we can do, it is next to impossible to track a guy on the net" response. Contacted the website, recieved no reply at all. I may contact the FBI because the police said that there would be no jurisdiction dificulties if they took it on. But I am doubtful about their willingness to help.
I am fine except for fighting a bad cold. A good thing is that I recently moved, so I should be harder to find if this guy was a real threat. This incident has redoubled my intent to get a carry permit. I am going to apply this week. Could use some help changing all my accounts, here at the other website and such, I tried to clear my info at the site where it all happened but could not change my user name. Changed everything else though. Thanks for all the support and help guys.

You could always contact the moderator of the forum to remove your old name and info. Just sign up with a new name.

Then start telling everyone you're from Saudi Arabia. :D

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with Uncle on the threat being the permit.

If attacked, you might well be able to argue necessity. It is more likely that you would be spotted and arrested, even though you had filed a complaint. If convicted, you might loss the right to own firearms forever.

What I am saying is based on Nevada ( NOT Pennylvanian ) law, and Walosi may be able to enlighten us all further. But here goes -

In Nevada there are really TWO ways to get a carry permit. One is the explicit law on the books. Go and take a class, qualify with the firearm you intend to carry, apply thru the Sheriff's Office, have the background check done, and hope it takes less time than the maximum limit (120 days). Quite possibly it may be accelerated if you are under what is seen as a legitimate threat. You will still go thru the entire process, but the folks at the S.O. will be watching out for you.

The other way is to talk with the Sheriff face to face and make a case why you need protection NOW.
It's possible you will be given temporary permission to carry by the sheriff pending the full permit process. He may be common sense and feel like Uncle Bill. This is Nevada now, and I can't speak for another state. But it is possible they have something like that.

Remember too that I live in a small rural county and most folks know each other round here. If nothing else, all the deputies would know the story and might get a speck of dust in their eye when they saw a bulge in your pants. You can forget that kind of treatment in Vegas. Out here people still count for more than the letter of the law sometimes, as long as you conduct yourself as someone to be sympathetic towards.

PA carry permits require a backround check, this can take up to 40 days as I understand. For an additional fee, you can expidite the process to under 5 days. I think the standard fee is $40.00 and to expidite is another $25 but I am not positive, I am stopping by the courthouse for the paperwork after work.

Bob:

Go to: http://www.packing.org/
Click on the drop-down menu button for states in the upper left, and goto the PA page. All the legalities are there, but down the right side are local contacts for sheriff's depts., and PA groups involved with yur local CCW formalities. They can give you the truest "hands on" advice about the hurry-up process, and possibly help you get it off the ground even quicker. Our KC³ organization is geared to aid in situations like this in KY, and I'm sure some of those in PA are as conscientous as our guys are. It may take some hunting through the contact lists, but it could well be worth the extra effort. Stay safe, watch six, and keep in touch.

Sorry Wal. I knew you were in Kentucky, so why did I have you in PA? PA guys, I know you're out there! Speak up!

:o Embarassedly

Absolutely no probs, Bro. The "system" is the same everywhere, and so are the guys who worked within it to set up the "shall issue" versions of CCW. Outside this forum, they are probably the most helpful types you are likely to run into, and will jump on Bob's situation like ducks on a bug, if he makes the right contacts.

I'm a saudi also, but I always tell the census people that I am actually a large family of samoans. :D

Go Saudi Arabia! Us arabs are the best allies the US could ever have!

-Dave

...or a family of large Samoans....well, it's about the same thing...nearly.

Having lived in Hawaii, and having had some experience with Samoans (whom I like very much btw-especially if any are reading this;):D) I would have to say that a family of Samoans would probably equal 2 or 3 Saudi Families. That's no fat slam either, just BIG folks. Had one Samoan guy come on one of my school teaching trips as a parent-helper, his wrists were bigger than my ankles, and his ankles were at least as wide as my calves:eek: I don't remember his name but I think I just called him SIR!;)

Gots nuttin' to do with fat - gots everything to do with BIG. The Samoans I've known, up close, look like shirt pockets. I'm 6'1", and when I stood face to face with a guy I was in service with, all I could see was a BIG shirt pocket. The really big Samoan guys are like buildings - you gotta stand across the street to see all of them. When they make "little people" jokes, laugh WITH them, never AT them. Makes big owies.

Since I've lugged my antique .38 thru maybe 40 states, under the seat, in the glove compartment, laying on the back seat, carried it in holster on belt in many rural areas, and never had a single question asked about it I don't worry much about permits. I know I was lucky in several ways -- never had to use it unless I wanted to and never had a cop who stopped me ask about it.

The only time I was ever asked about it was in Searchlight, Nevada and that wasn't by a LEO. I'd parked my new 60 Olds convertible in front of the only casino in town while I was inside drinking and gambling (can't remember the name of the casino. Rusty, maybe you remember. It's the casino the guy flew his twin Cessna thru the front door and blew & burned the place up.) and had the gun laying on the back seat in full view. Casino management asked me about it. I told them I was a gangster from Cicero, IL and needed it for my work.

Do what Rusty says but if your life is in danger use the gun first and get the permit later.
