I need a recommendation on a good bow for hunting. I've pulled compounds before but am open to recurves and longbows. Just want to know what other knife-knuts are pullin' nowadays...

Thanks!

Dan

If your ready to leave the compound behind, I can recommend either the Wes Wallace or Blacktail bows. They make custom recurves and longbows for hunting.

If you would like a production type bow, go with the Martin bows.

For information an all bows, go to bowsite.org, clk on traditional archery. Good luck.

I'll second the vote for a Hoyt. Check out the forums at edersbow.com, you can learn anything there.

Mathews Solocam. The first time I picked one up, I was hooked. And mine is about 5 years old. The newer ones out are supposed to be even quieter, smoother, and faster. Check em out HERE

Get a recurve, compound bows are nice but it ain't archery. I've killed one deer with a bow. It's the only one that ran off and suffered. A scoped rifle lets the kill be quick and clean. I love bows, but I love animals too.

Just get one of this years models at the end of the season and save several hundred bucks (NPI). Any good compound bow these days is phenomenal, just get 300 fps+. If you insist on taking your horse and wagon into the field, of course you'll have to have a recurve. And if you make your own shafts and arrowheads, you need a longbow. The deer population will not suffer with any of the above. In fact, the longbow and the recurve will improve their sense of humor. My compound is an ESE Baby G. About 5 years old, probably good 'till the next revolutionary change in materials and technology, about 20 years from now.

McPherson/Pearson

I shoot a McPherson Freedom for 3D and a McPherson Screamer for hunting. McPherson makes a special Screamer model for the shop I shoot for, unlike other Screamers, this model has a 31" A2A for fast handling and ease of use in a stand.

Archerytalk.com has a huge classifieds section. You can pick up an almost new bow for less than half of what it cost new.

You really can't go wrong with any decent brand at a moderate price point.

lefty, from the 70's. Has the Bear coin inlayed in the grip. Nice and simple.

Also have a compound, PSE Vulcan Hunter I got bact in the 80's. Still a joy to pull.

I shoot a PSE thunderbolt. Great Bow.
I want a Mathews Legacy in the worst way. I have to stop spending money on these damm knives. I can't save for anything because of all these awsome knives posted. O well.

For compounds, I'm voting fot the Mathews Solocam all the way. If you have never shot this bow, see if you can try one immediately. They rock!

Damn you guys, you got me wanting a Martin now :D I used to have a PSE Elite, but I cracked the limb and then sold it to a friend :( Anyone know if they make the victory model in a lefty config?
