OT: What's more important, what I think, or what is really true?

There are 3 sides to the story....his side, my side, and the truth.

The truth is the truth. My perseption of the truth will be tainted by what I"ve lived through, and what my mind is thinking at the time. This is where communication comes in. Nothing will change the truth, but often what I think is the truth can be changed by producing more facts and explaining what has been said or done.

Most often, our beliefs are based on trust, can i trust someone or something. If in the past I have been hurt by someone or something it will be harder to trust that person or thing no matter what the truth is and no matter who presents the information. So here lies the dilemna, do I trust you and do I trust what you are doing. Can I forget the past and go on with living, or will the past always be there tainting my perception of the truth??

"uh, oh, I thot we weren't supposed to drink and type. That could lead to ya having to take 'defensive typing courses!'"

:D

I think I shall chose to believe in the beer and that beer is truth,
It's foamy head has never lied to me.

Shavastar, your a prophit....

Most Excellent post Gin!:D  Wish I had of said that.:grumpy: ;)

This (at 2 am in down town Oz ) is a bit much for my brain to cope with............But , Language is important here, in the sense that without language it is hard for their to be thought (nothing to describe it) I believe that most of us are equipped better to accept our mental words if they are good , and if we mentally say them often enough ,for us, they will become truth, at least until that truth is challenged by another set of words (language) and if we accept that challenging thought then it too will become our truth! regardless this "truth" lies only in the minds of man in language, try this, remove the Language then what is the truth? Hell now I have a Migraine.

Gin liked what you said.

I can't find the relevant quote anymore, but some very smart person once said something to the effect that:

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, sometimes even their own "truth", but the "facts" are the common property of all of humanity and there are few greater sins than to alter the facts by lying, concealing, shading or twisting the facts.

What you believe to be true shapes your actions, make sure of your facts before you pull the trigger, literally or figuratively.
