OTF Knives for women.

I bought a Kershaw Livewire for my wife.
She has no problem operating the knife, it is quality made and you can find them for not much over $200.

If my skinny ass can build up the hand strength to close a Scarab, then any woman should be able to as well. As mentioned, many men can't even do it at first (not even John Wick), but after practice it gets easier and easier. It's more a matter of muscles being used in a way that aren't normally used.

That said, a lighter sprung D/A OTF isn't a bad thing for a female (or dude, for that matter) if the thumb in question itself isn't tough. Back when I owned mine, I remember the Scarab being tough on the skin/meat of my thumbs, and my UTX-75 being even worse (thin switch) when knifesturbating them open and closed to keep the strength of my thumbs up. If your wife wants to keep her hands soft and free of calluses, perhaps an OTF isn't a good choice regardless of hand strength.

Everywhere I've looked...at least the BF supporting dealers I'm aware of (and a lot that aren't)...it's listed out of stock and/or preorder.

Of all my OTF autos my new Benchmade Shootout is by far the easiest to fire.
I was actually shocked when I got mine. It fires so easily, it almost feels "cheap", like one of those toy switchblades from long ago.

However, it's been 100% reliable. Honestly, unless I want to pack an OTF that is larger or "nicer", the Shootout has kicked my Microtechs out of my pocket for most applications.

Solid knife and easy to deploy.

Your gonna go blind brother šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

Yes same here. I’ve packed either a Benchmade Phaeton, a Microtech Ultratech, or a Guardian 035 for years on duty but the Shootout has become my new edc otf. Mine too has been 100% reliable and it’s incredibly light weight. I’m not a super big fan of tanto blades and I do wish they would offer a clip or drop point blade version but I can live with the tanto blade.

thanks everyone for the replies. definitely have some good info to research now. i appreciate the help. except for Carl, why even bother if that is the crap you're going to post, SMH.

Carl is harsh, but your title ā€œOTF knives for womenā€ assumes there’s a gender difference in ability when there’s not. It’s a matter of strength and size not gender. Women can have very strong hands…just not your woman.

In the auto subforum plenty of guys complain about having problems opening OTF knives. I have problems with UTX but found a broken in used one I could open with ease. The UTX70 is a light opener as well.

2.5 mos. later, stumbled here via a search function.

FWIW, since auto's are now legal, and I've begun to accumulate some, my own wife now wants one for herself, and of the ones I currently own, she prefers the Heretic Manticore S over the others; even as a former tennis player at 5'8" and (redacted) lbs., she's not a fragile woman, and the size, weight, and ease of operation of the "S" all suited her very well.

I recommend the H&K Micro-Incursion. Made by Hogue. 2" blade and snappy AF. And my wife can activate it, but it isn't too easy to open (so it won't open accidentally). It is reasonably priced.
More expensive is the Microtech Troodon Mini (again, 2" blade). Advantage is you can get colors other than black. Top phot has the H&K Hogue; bottom has the MT Troodon Mini.

I have two Hogues; a mini incursion and a counterstrike. Both have been completely reliable so far, buy my Axial shift and dart have much lighter switches. The total pressure might be about the same, but the "break" at the end rolls pretty effortlessly on the Axials. I had a friend try all 4 and the only one she couldn't fire was the Counterstrike. She had some trouble retracting the Mini Incursion, too. Another thing is that the Hogue otfs have tall switches instead of sharply cut grippy switches like everyone else uses. This is nice if you want a switch that doesn't tear your thumb up at all but might be a little trickier to use for someone with long nails. I've avoided microtech for various reasons but I've heard they're even stiffer anyway.

You’re right, he’s married to a ā€œweak assā€ woman šŸ˜‚ OTF knives aren’t made based on gender. One of the owners of eKnives is a woman and she opens OTFs like any man out there.

If he wants to get his wife a present, he should get her one of these:

Do these have a light spring? 🤪 May as well just get her a stronger OTF and ā€œwork out on that.ā€

Who cares what his title is. It’s his wife and he is looking for a lighter springed OTF for her. His title definitely got you to click. I say good job.
Too many people looking for a reason to come down on someone these days over something stupid.
