I'm really interested in obtaining an OTF. However, I live in Hawaii and am pretty sure it's illegal. I take full responsibility if I ever own one BUT I was wondering if it's okay to ship here?
The reason why I ask is that it seems as though you can order an OTF through BladeHQ. While I obviously didn't go completely through with the order no red flags go up when I get to the payment page. I called BladeHQ and the woman I spoke to said that if there's no red disclaimer coming up it should be good to go.
Any feeback on this?

There was a Deadlock that was seized just a few months ago coming into Hawaii, it was posted about in the Hawk Facebook group. Apparently something about it being an island so far out means everything basically gets scanned as if it was coming through customs.

wasn't that why Ken Onion made the speedsafe/assisted? it was to make something close that wasnt illegal under the Hawaii anti-auto knife laws?

I wouldn't try to bring an auto in.....not worth the risk and penalties.

I agree, just not worth it.
But I really envy you guys that live in States where OTF's are legal!

I'm not too crazy about a self-assisted out the front Knife. However Smith & Wesson makes a self-assisted Out The Front Knife. It's about $70. It's made in Taiwan which ain't bad, it's a double-edged dagger blade in a u s 8 and it technically and legally is self assisted. It's the closest thing you're going to get to an automatic out the front without going a foul of the law.

Thanks for the tip on the Smith and Wesson, I'll check it out.

LOL! The interesting thing is that the knife laws were passed back in the 50's or 60's if I'm not mistaken.

Sounds like their knife laws suck as bad as the gun laws in Hawaii.
Gun laws are getting better. A lot of people are pursuing concealed carry permits due to new legislation.

The magazine limits are still in place though.

OTF and butterfly knives are a misdemeanor, which is a bummer.

But all other knives are legal to own and carry.

I live in Washington state and it is illegal to carry an automatic but they will usually ship to me. I bought a Heretic and SMKW shipped it to me.

There are currently two lawsuits in the court system challenging Hawaii’s bans on autos and balisongs. Balisongs may become legal soon as that case has been going on for a while. Autos will probably follow soon after.

As far as having one of them shipped to Hawaii at the present moment? Well, you judge for yourself and take your own risks.

They need to update that. Autos are legal in PA now and you can carry an auto in IL if you have a FOID card. And since it’s technically an assisted knife, it could ship to any of those places. I mean, federally, assisted knives can ship anywhere in the states, though places like NY, DC, etc. may still give you trouble over them.
