There seems to be a lot of traditional Khukuri's out there. But are there any good modern versions out there? Thanks!

What kind of modernization are you looking for? Blade steel, handle material, blade shape, etc?
I cut my teeth on Cold Steel Khuk-Like-Objects. Carbon V, thin, rubber handle. Not bad. Over priced and not as good as the "real deal" but they worked OK. I know there are a few custom makers out there that dabble in super steels, western handles, modern handle materials. And they make a very handsome khuk...for about 600+ bones:D

What are you looking for? Maybe we can guide you:)

Have seen hybrids from Jason Knight, Bill Siegle, SAR, Busse KZ. Never save enough to try them at all.

The moment i saw the 12" AK went through the steel pipe like butter in Noss4's vid, i'm game for traditional forged khukuri.

Just what you said, modern steels and handles. The only production stuff Ive seen is Coldsteel.

Ive seen a few of those, the busse mainly, too much money though.

For many this might be a grail- The Reinhardt Khukuri.

I'm in the midst of getting one done myself, with shadow of YCS, Samsher and a very funny cho to start with, and hopefully the smith will use sawmill steel on it.
L6 or 15N20, criteria is it must chop through hard nails without chipping.

Is all this in reference to the Reinhardt one?

I'm sorry Euroross.

I meant getting one made locally according to my preferences. Will post pics once i'm done with the sketching.
It's an aggressive one.

KHHI (thekhukurihouse.com) has some full tang modern looking designs. Their Humvee, for example, looks quite interesting.

Recently i was offered to try out on a discontinued CS Mini Light Kukri and in the midst of sharpening it; Carbon-V blade with Kraton handle, stock removal.

Then i found Oldjimbo's write-up about application of khukuris as well as a short review on the LTC.

I for one would love to see some modern kukri's that will take advantage of better handle materials and blade steel.

Id love to see a Kukri in 3V, M4, or 52100 with a rubber handle like Resiprene C or horse stall mat. I think with superior edge retention and a shock absorbing handle a modern version would be amazing. There is alot of material waste when producing a kukri via stock removal and I believe thats the reason why we don't see many modern kukri's out there.

ka-bar makes a machete one with kraton grip and epoxy coating, ontario makes a non-machete also with a kraton grip both are in 1095

Its still going to take an impressive steel to best hand forged 5160 in anything other than rust resistance.... and Ive yet to handle a rubberised grip that was better than wood in anything other than rot resistance

Hi guys, have you seen the khukuri version recently offered by Traditional Filipino Weapons? traditionalfilipinoweapons.com A modern-ish interpretation made in Southeast Asia. Also, I've seen two versions of Sheffield Steel Gurkha Kukris on ebay, I think these are made in the UK.

Yeah i saw those Steve......
It made me chuckle and say um....ok? now just WTF are they thinking with that one?
Just doesnt seem tactical nor mall ninja and sure as heck aint very practical. :)
Nepali chainless chainsaw mebbe? ;)

it might actually work if the serations went the other direction..... how they are the knife would just get horribly stuck, looks like a movie prop

The immediate feel about the serrated khuk would be a heavy handle blade.
It doesn't at all function like a khuk; a weight forward is a MUST.
Unless the tang's very much reduced in weight, the serrated blade will just be another fancy-schmancy knife.

These?

I've tried something shaped like the lower two (in fact it's an Extrema Ratio) and probably having handled most of the traditional khuks and hence bias, i must admit the handle isn't ergo at all.
The removal of the "sweet spot" material thus losing much of the brute proven to be futile. I could appreciate the different grinding but the designs simply doesn't bring out the best of a khuk profile.
The top 2 might be good for stabbing.
