Other Khukuri's?

Jay, the bottom two have a really nice blade profile. The handles look awkward. I've had great experience with the old CS carbon V LTC. It had a fat belly, but was only 1/8" thick. This makes it more machete to me. I never tried the old ATC. I believe it had the same shape with a thicker spine. I have a CS SK 5 Gurkha, but haven't put the chop on anything yet with it. I'm all for modern production method KLOs. They'll never have the style and romance of a traditional khuk, but the design is so useful it should be explored as much as possible. The Becker Reinhardt (sp?) and Busse look very cool, but neither seems to have much belly. I'd like to read some reviews of the Busse and Becker. They seem to be shelf queens due to rarity. I also notice this lack of belly with the modern CS KLOs, except the machete versions, which are similiar to the old LTC. It's funny, if you surf the web for a while, you find the lowly old LTC seems to have reached cult status. The newer designs all seem to be more pointy and martial in nature. They look great, but I think the deep belly makes it a better chopper. I'd love to see ESEE or Becker make a modern version along the lines of the LTC with quality steel and micarta handles. They wouldn't replace my real (HI) khuks, but would be really cool. Jay, I'd like to know what you think about the Mini. CS had several variations on their KLO in the past. It's unfortunate CS has limited their stable so much. CS brought many folks into the khuk world with their KLOs. Take care.

The more I look at the Fox ones, the more I dont like them. I would really like to know how many of you guys have the Cold Steel versions, and what you think of them. The SK5 model seems like it may be a winner?

John,
A khuk recently developed a drinking habit and i shall snap a pic tonight for a discussion. I was thinking of a marriage between this and the magic stone.

Speaking of Mini, a friend has given me one- is it the Bando version? I've tried cutting some branches and maybe i'm used to 18", the length somehow doesn't work on me much. The handle could have been more textured; experienced slippage when wet. At 14+", it's quite a good blade for camp side.Lanyard is a must though.
I would like to try the Reinhardt though if they haven't made it so rare.

Alright John,

A friend of mine was quite pleased with the Pioneer Khuk that i have and we decided to take this to another level.
They look great, but I think the deep belly makes it a better chopper.
Having the idea of YCS,Samsher and a Sperm whale, a generous belly is needed.

As one of the lurkers here (9W2EAT is his forum name), he used Visio to sketch out this and following pic is a cut-out of what you all see here.
20" of steel.

Jay, that's a good looking khuk. Looks like a fighter. If you allowed the top curve to continue on its round path to the tip, it would have a similiar prfile to the CS LTC and be an awesome chopper for it's length. As is, it would be lighter and faster in the hand and be a good chopper, but better fighter IMHO. I think the generous belly adds to both uses. I'd like to see it made. I notice the handle is not curved, was this by design? A little curve and a larger bell pommel (chit-like) would look cool and add balance, while locking your hand in place. I like it though. Do you plan to have it made locally?

Euroross, I have the LTC in Carbon V and the Gurkha in SK5. I have used the LTC quite a bit and love it. As I said earlier, it is more machete than khuk to me. I haven't used the Gurkha, but it feels very good in the hand. The reviews are very good. It lacks soul though. That's where HI fills the void. I would be interested to see the Gurkha model made with a micarta handle. The rubber on my LTC has held up well, but I don't have a lot of long term confidence in it, even though I've had it since like 1995. I would LOVE to see HI make something in a similiar size and weight to the CS Gurkha, but with a little more belly. Take care.

Hi John,

I would like to get it done here. It's about 20". Would certainly like a tear drop fuller in the middle.

Thanks for that input. Ive never held a CS model before, might try and find one soon. Maybe do a chop off with my HI.
