Does anyone else know of any other types of subhilt knives?I have a BlackJack subhilt and so far it is my favorite but I was wondering if anyone else makes one? I have seen the OSS which is way to big for daily carry. I love these kinds but there dosen't seem to be a lot around.

De Leon is cranking out a lot of subhilts and you can see some fine examples at:

I'm almost scared to use my Blackjack subhilt because of the rarity but picked up a De Leon at a fair price and it is built like a tank. Most of his subhilts kind of resemble a Randall Little Bear profile. He works mostly in ATS-34. He has even done some subhilt "tanto"

This is a maker that worked with Ralph Bone for many years and does some great grinding.

There are also often examples on EBAY but the prices on the treeman site are hard to beat.

I bought my Blackjack years ago and it's no longer mint (it would still fetch three times what I paid for it) but with the De Leon I have found a sturdy "everyday" user.

Yah those are some nice knives, I like that one smaller Jungle fighter he has. 6" and a nice upswept blade. Strange, everyone is talking BlackJack being defunct but I beleived that a new company took over. Mine has Knifeware Inc on it and is made WV not IL.

Jim@treeman seems to get batchs of the subhilts every few months.

I was unaware that Ken Warner Blackjacks were made in WV, or that he had any subhilts left.

There were many variations of Blackjack subhilts but the most common were the Effingham 1-7 subhilts in black micarta and total production(I believe)was only about 300, that's pretty rare for a production knife.

I think I payed all of $79 for my Blackjack back when they came out. Nice knife.

Bark River is the new embodiment of Blackjack.

Ray Cover Sr. makes one of the nicest subhilts around, and charges a lot less than most custom makers.
