Other Than Hinderer, What Else Do You Collect?

We all belong to multiple forums, have our "internet friends", and constantly learn from each other. From looking at other threads (i.e. watches, guns, etc.) we all have a lot in common other than our taste in knives. Since so many interests go hand in hand with the investments we make in Hinderer blades, I thought it would be interesting to see what else people collect, so that we can share our passions and knowledge with one another. And of course, glamor shots with or without knives is strongly encouraged...

I will start:

1911's
sporting shotguns
early American silver and furniture
Chinese export and armorial porcelain
photography

I don't know if you would call it a collection exactly, but I've built up a pretty decent library over the last 10 or 12 years. I probably have less than half of it in my possession sadly, and it is rather scattered through a few locations in my house (office, bedroom, game room, living room, etc), but I'd say it is my most extensive and diverse collection. I really like watches, but have a fairly small collection (2 citizens, one bulova, and an old beat to death seiko). I have sort of the beginnings of a gun collection. When my stepdad, who I generally referred to as my dad, passed away a few months ago I sort of inherited his collection- or at least any that I wanted from it. It's small, but there are a couple of 1911's that I adore and a few other interesting pieces. Oh and I always seem to end up with empty bourbon bottles, so I guess you could say I collect those too ;)

Besides all things hinderer I collect old wood working tools, music (mostly country, classic rock, and blues) old school tattoos, and I've got a pretty good collection of empty beer bottles in my recycling bin right now. :)

My family n friend would tell you im nuts, but I'm just like my father was, quite the collector...over the years, since I was prob. 10...it was Mad magazines, cheap shitty knives from the late night guys on tv LOL, videogames, benchmades, maisto 1:18 scale dicast car models, movies, alittle japanese animation (dragon ball z and neon genesis evangelion...the real japanese stuff not the crap american versions, then as I hit my teens I got into guns pretty heavy w my dad, and collected guns vicarioisly through him and we would always goto the range, he was into archery too, I was always more interested in knives tho. Mid teens my father and I bought knives and sold them to the local gun shops. More benchmades and myercos. My father got BIG into buying, selling and collecting Zippos (he woulda been all over that steel flame rhk zippo! ;)) he actually made 20 grand PROFIT in one year on ebay just by buying old zippos posted w no pics, doing the research, touching them up, taking amazing pics as he was a pro photographer for decades before i was born. He changed collections and hobbies like his underwear! Zippos, guns, bows, walking sticks/canes, pocket watches...you name it. Then my father passed away and I took over the gun collection, only thing iv added is a tac'd out mossberg door breacher. Then I got into collecting life...exotic and rare plants, still to this day. For a few years I was HARD into keeping/collecting/trying to breed fresh water discus fish. That was INCREDIBLY similar to collecting Hinderers believe it or not. Guys, I had about 10 grand sunk into the Discus hobby, used to goto forum meets, trade shows, I HAD to have the most expensive and rare discus fish from the best breeders around the world, I had 6-8 tanks, 30 discus, each carrying about a hinderer price tag...then sadly my town switched water sources, all my tanks got "the plague" and that was it for my Discus fish collecting, good thing I have like 1500 pics on my photobucket of all my prized fish. It was juuust like it is here...pics and forum galore! Maybe that's why I snuck myself in here so comfortably. Then it was back to plant collecting...at this time I got BACK into knives hard, altho it never reeeally stopped lol. But now I was only collecting spydercos, I was done w benchmade. Did the spyderco thing for a while, then I got into collecting microtech autos for a few yrs and had QUITE the cool collection. I did the Strider (mehh) i did the CRK (o0o0oo) then i found RHK, and it was a wrap after that! I said, i dont even want anything but these...and all knives but one have been sold for Hinderers! Lol

Wow, what a blab that way ay? Now that u guys know me and my fathers whole life of collecting. :D ...iv never typed it out or put real thought into it before this. Thats basically everything from age 10-27 lol. Not to sound corny, but you guys are helping me write my future...I got my eyes on a sweet little xm that a very very gracious and well respected forum member has got on ice for me as soon as I'm done being holiday broke.

Thanks for reading guys, feels good to share about my dad. He woulda fit riiight in with you guys, I swear.

Book (Math, Statistic, and Economics), but that's more career related than "collecting to collect".
Shoes
Watches

Books are something that I need more of in my life, and one day hope to start a library of some sort.

One piece of advice - don't collect books until you're stable in a long term home. Moving a huge library cross country was not an enjoyable experience. :(

Knives (RHK/CRK/EK Knives)
Pens (Monteverde/Rotring)
Watches (Hamilton/Luminox/MTM)
Guns (Custom Mausers/Custom Enfields/Pre 64 Mod. 70)

OK cool daddy, great to see that passion! I have a feeling that your Hinderer collection will surpass your former Discuss hobby. Good luck to you, maybe see you at the ECCKS in Feb/Mar.

Interesting thread....nice to see what others are into. Am pleased to see that books are frequently mentioned. I too enjoy books but due to space limitations, I've had to go the electronic book route but it surely isn't the same as holding one in your hand. Especially old bird guides. I enjoy birding and am always looking for those in hardcover, even beat up ones.
