Finally got to a point where I had time to prepare this knife show report. Did at least beat the CKG show that will take place this coming weekend. About 2 dozen knifemakers and collectors participated in the first show of custom knives in Aylmer, Quebec sponsored by Kutter Knives. Russ and his family were certainly busy over the past few months spreading the word via various media outlets including print, TV and radio. They also were very busy during the weekend 2 day show when 2-300 folks interested in knives came thru their store and into the blocked off Mall area to see knives from Ontario and Quebec makers.

Russ operates a Mall Knife shop with lots of factory made knives and has available a specially made custom camp knife by Wally Hayes.

A couple of new ideas from Jose although he has done carving for some time. The blade on the small caper is bead blasted while the dagger has a blued blade and nice bronze fittings. The handle carving is a nice touch and makes the knives very light.

Of the tables occupied at the show by collectors, both are BF members, Murray White/Phyllis Barrett and Nimravus (JF). JF bought a few knives inluding a Tactical fighter from Murray St. Amour

and a tanto from James McGowan.

Nimravus is just getting into some custom knives but has a nice and extensive collection of hard to find Benchmade folders. The stand they are displayed on are very nice.

While Murray took photos of the event, his collecting and life partner, wife, Phyllis Barrett

spoke with many people that came by the table to look at about 30 hunters and utility knives

Christoph Derringer MS is now participating as an instructor at some HammerIns and is doing some unique work with his forging technique including compressing steel instead of stretching it. This is how he creates his integral knives with the S guard

He has also now begun to do some nice damascus folders and still creates his unique small daggers that are presented on a nice stand.

Christoph also does other forged knives and fitted wooden sheaths.

Tom Hart and Randy Doucette visit at the show and each had nice knives to show and sell.

Many knifemakers had a nice time visiting at the hotel in the evening after the Sat show and for Phyllis and I a highlight was the Casa Grecque restaurant in Aylmer across the road from the Mall. 200 rue Principale. Ask for Jerry and the #92 on the table menu is out of this world. I think if the show is done again, this would be the place for a retreat after the Saturday event.

Many thanks to RL for hosting the images

Thanks Murray, I love getting to see these show reports. Especially when I get to check out a great knife like that Christoph Deringer integral.

Thanks Murray - great report and pics! So you went with a hunter / utility theme for your display this time around? Nice knives. Those Derringer knives rock - his integrals are really unique.

Cheers,

Roger

Roger--I'm able to break down my collection to a number of sub-collections.

At Port Stanley I did about 2 dozen forged blades. Ottawa was 30 Hunters/Utilities

Next year at Port Stanley will likely be about an equal number of Bowies/Fighters

If I return to Ottawa, it will be a couple dozen or more Daggers and Boot knifes.

After that I'll probably do Art Knives followed by small knives and folders.

Christoph is still working on the integral and has plans for a sheath and it might be at the CKG show.

Outstanding pictures. Looks like it was a great show. Very nice to see Jose around. I always liked Christoph's knives and I've never seen a folder by him before.
Thanks alot!
