Here are a few pics from there. Went last Sun, Mon, and Tuesday. Hiked the Otter Creek Trail 11.3 miles total. Spent a lot of time playing around in the water.

Some of the people went with us were used to like 3 mile trips and I think they regretted taking so much stuff but I think they had an OK time anyway.

Lovely pics, and a cosy little tent there, looks like you had a great time.

Thanks for sharing those good photos. That's the only way I can enjoy places like that now. Hey, what's that strange looking fuzzy critter that crawled into your tent? Don't get bit!

Once again that Reeves at is laughing at me. Be glad when mine get heres :)

HD as always your pics are great. I love that area you are hiking into. That water fall i could stay there for a day or two and just listen to the sounds. Wish we had more green out here in SO CALI like you have out there in the OLD mountains *L^. Looking at those pics i sometimes wish i lived there too.
What tent is that?? If you have any more pics then please post them dont be shy.

Looks like you're carrying half the gear those girls are carrying. The one benefit of age I guess.:D

22,

Otter Creek is between Elkins and Parsons WV. We parked cars at each end of the trail and then drove back at the end.

The trail itself is only 11.3 miles so you could really hike it in one day, but we usually swim a lot and take a lot of side hikes. Also lot's of trails adjoin Otter Creek Trail including Shavers Mountain which has some great old growth timber. We hiked up Moore Run while we were there a ways and also hiked about half of Posession Camp trail which is one of the trails you take to connect with Shavers Mt. Trail.

Shotgun,

the two older ladies are only 1 yr younger than me. However their backpackind experience consists of hiking in 3 or 4 miles and camping and they had never done a longer multi day trip before. I find that hiking 2 or 3 miles uphill with a heavy pack, or a trip of say 3 days 12 to 15 miles tends to get you thinking about what you can LEAVE rather than BRING.

I have difft packs/ gear for if rain is expected, or if it's going to be cold, I bring extra shoes/sandals if the terrain is rough. This hike I did in Keene sandals only and put socks on when the terrain is rough. That way with all the creek crossings I didn't have to change shoes all the time, and carry extra shoes.

That looks like a nice spot. I grew up in upstate NY and sometimes I miss some places back there, especially in the fall. I like the swimming hole.

looks like a great place and good times.
thanks for the thread.

Sorta in the woods - Scout Summer Camp. As outlanders we were placed far away from the local groups. :) With no water at the site. :o At least the pit toilet was semi-disgusting. :D

No Deer Flies. Just a couple of 'skeeters.  Must be the dry weather.

Only critter visit was from a black-an-white pussycat, and that one was very timid. Do they eat skunk up that way?
