well, I finally placed my order for the last of the things I need to get my grinder-in-a-box up and running. $400 worth of wheels and belts from US Knifemakers Supply. I know I'll be glad to see it get here but for the moment anyway my butt hurts.

I should have asked this before ordering, but has everyone had good experience with them? I think their wheels were priced a little on the high side but not too bad, and they have everything all in one place so it was convenient.

They do have a lot going for them. They have a decent online store, have a good variety of supplies, and they ship pretty quick.

If you want to do it right this is not a cheap passion If you don't mind making crap you can make knives without spending much more than $50.00 and the cost of a book

ouch is right, you must have ordered a bunch of belts. When I did the estimate on the wheel for my grinder it comes up to 268.65 and 31.38 for shipping to Canada. I don't have any belts on that because I will be getting them from this side of the border

Page you're absolutely right, I'm usually still using my good gear long after I forget how much I paid for it. I started out with a copy of the $50 knife shop, then researched and read and dreamt...Thanks for reminding me why I started down this path int he first place.

thanks also everyone else for the feedback about USKS.

I buy almost all of my belts from Tracey, he seems to be the best deal on most quality belts.

I can buy norton belts locally but to beat the online pricing I would have to buy them in lots of 50. Lower quantities locally are a couple bucks more then online pricing after shipping.

The package got here today, everything seems to be there. Does it matter that my $60 idler wheel is scratched and dinged up? seriously on one hand seems like $60 ought to get a shiny new part, free of scratches and dings...but on the other hand does it really matter as far as performance? I'll get a pic up later.

it looks as though the last post, before yours was 2010. Snickers...

Damn the search engine... if necroposting is so frowned upon, why aren't threads auto locked after what; a month, 3 months, 6 months, a year... Who judges when a thread is too old to post into anyway?
