This is probably the best kothimoda I've ever seen. Bura made the khukuri and got a great do on it. Can't find a single thing to complain about. What impressed me about this particular khukuri was the handle. That is not bone you see but white horn! I'd guess that I've looked at fifty or sixty thousand khukuris in my life and I doubt that more than 10 had white horn handles. And the way Bura got it fitted up with the silver HI habaki bolster and buttcap is just great. Where did they find this horn?

The scabbard sets a new standard of excellence. You might find one as good somewhere but I wouldn't know where but you could not find one any better.

No use to call or email this one is already gone to Harry. I just wanted to share the picture with you.

Harry thinks that Jim C. might have something to say about HIKV but that is not like Jim. Is it?

Great googly-moogly!
Uncle, that is an incredible khurkuri. I don't think it be for me, but, wow, what a khuk!
Umm, I don't want to be vulgar, but how much would something as fabulous as that cost?
Somewhat over-awed,
David

Uncle, I don't think that is so expensive, for what it is. It is very beautiful... I could go for one (selling a car soon), but the opportuninties for wearing a 'No 1 Dress' khurkuri is, to say the least, somewhat limited in Europe.
I just bought a painting of some roses for £250, a present for my good lady... I know what I would rather have as a work of art though! Trouble is, she prefers post-impressionist painting to highly lethal Nepali knives!
Before anyone asks: £250 = $366. Not far off, considering it was an impulse purchase!
Yours, drooling,
David

Hmmm. It would be interesting to see what it would 'really' cost, after shipping, import duty and VAT. (Also, not too sure if it would even clear customs!) I think I would insist of insuring it for the journey to the UK.
Darn it! That is a beautiful khurkuri!
Yours, saving his money up,
David

:
Bro that blade looks very similar to the new Birghorka heavy duty Hanuman? .......And would definitly raise many eyebrows at Any court!!!

That one is just to lovely to ever use, but I might be interested in the plain jane model someday.

Could/would the kamis do that one in a chiruwa style?
And what are the spec's for one of those?

Uncle,
What I think would look very nice is if the karda and the chakma had silver butt caps, and full tangs.
Like I say, just a thought.

Yep, yep, yep...

The blade looks great, but as you said, that handle is unbelievable. The translucent look makes it appear fragile, like a cocoon with something living inside.

Very pretty!!!

David, don't sell the Post-Impressionists short. Fine khukuris are works of art to be sure, but methinks your lady knows well the world of fine art. Though I have a bit of passion for well-made blades, I share your lady's preference for the Post-Impressionists -- they are, in my ever so humble opinion, in a class by themselves. I applaud your lady's discriminating eye!

Just curious, is the painting of the roses an original? If it's something by a recognized Post-Impressionist, you got an unbelievable bargain!

Uncle Bill, did Harry specify white horn, or did it just happen to come that way? And how available is the white horn and from where did it come?

Steven, this one happened to come with white horn. According to Uncle Bill, Bura happened to have some of this available, well aged and decided to use this in lieu of the water buffalo shin bone that graces my other kothimoda khukuri. As for further availability of this white horn, you'd have to check with Uncle Bill. Will report more once I receive this khukuri.

Uncle Bill,

I found this Malla in the FAQ - nice place to cruise
smile.gif
- and was wondering if the handle material is the same, or some kind of discoloration?

Thanks!

Nick

The Malla has what we call gray horn, not white.

I don't know where Bura found this white horn, if he has anymore stashed uder the bed, but I do know it is certainly not readily available down at the corner horn shop.

I did not order the white horn because I figured I'd have to wait a year before any showed up. This was all Bura's idea and doing. And, well done, Bura!

Hell of a knife!

As Uncle Bill has said frequently, the kamis at BirGhorka sometimes tend to surprise us with new and unexpected tweeks to the khukuris and other products they make.

I for one, don't mind at all if they do this, as long as it is an improvement on what they normally do.

Harry

Agreed, Uncle Bill, would certainly help if BirGhorka could give you some "heads-up" in this area as well as giving those who have special orders to give feedback on such changes. In deed, this may be something that BirGhorka could work on as a Dasein resolution .

Harry

One of the problems is I order and quote a price. Then they upgrade something and I am stuck trying to justify a price increase which I really hate to do. It is like the decorative horn scabbards on the katanas. I quote a price based on a wood and leather scabbard -- easy to make and not costly. Then the sarki with no name decides to upgrade and spends a week making the horn scabbard and decorating it in white metal and I am supposed to collect for this extra week's work. Embarrassing for me even though the horn scabbard is better and much more beautiful.
