Our Trip North

...Most people who build in vegitation leave the 'big trees'.
I wish that were true here. Most just cut and clear and turn their lot into a lawn. To me, it doesn't make any sense to move to the forests of the Northwest and make your property look like a city park.

...are those Douglas fir?
I'm not sure, I think they are either Douglas Fir or Sitka Spruce. There are also several species of pines in there. This was the first time I have actually been able to get out and walk among them because it's very thick and uneven in there and before I got my new hip I couldn't navigate the forest floor.

There are a couple of big fallen ones and I won't touch them as they are a natural part of the ecology. A couple of the large standing ones have hollow spaces among the roots where the bear and coons live. They seem pretty solid though.

This is logging country, so if I need to have any removed, I can sell them instead of having to pay. If there are no mills running that type of wood, I will just have it felled and cut it for firewood. It won't make the best firewood, but it will provide some heat.
