Finally got a chance to stretch my legs and test a little Cabelas Three Forks 3-weight flyrod on Octoraro Creek. It casted well for such a little 7'6" 3 piece rod - good truck/backup creek rod for 36 bones:

Beautiful morning, but not a rise, nor strike at my nymph:

Thought their would be some Browns hiding under the logs, but no luck. I have a lot to learn :) - a tough time of year:

Was a great day for a hike and to relax:

Trying to familiarize myself with the flora and fauna here - is this the good stuff?

Finally got chased out of the woods by this mutant tree (Beech?):

Hope you had a good day too.

Nice! I would imagine the fish aren't all that active this time of year. What was the water temperature like?

awesome pics man... i have some fly fishing gear that i still need to try out...:o i love that beech tree... that thing looks wild..

Great pics buddy. It's not the end of the world if ya don't get a bite when you are relaxing somewhere as nice as that eh !!!!

Since when is that an excuse to stay home? :D

Great stuff Brians. A bad day fishing still beats a good day workin'.

True enough Chris. The preferred temperature of brown trout is about 16oC or low 60's, below a threshold temperature they will essentially shut down feeding activity and live on their existing fat stores until warmer temperatures. I don't know what that is for trout, but for perch which prefer warmer waters, they shut down in an aquaculture setting at 10oC. However, in the wild they will continue exploratory feeding - hence you can still catch these guys under the ice.

Also  on the beech. I love gnarly old trees and crazy roots.

Thanks for the info KGD. I also need to readup and practice more nymph and streamer fishing, as most of my angling has been with dry flies.

Sure was peaceful - didn`t see a soul.

I`m guessing that is a Beech. Perhaps an arborist would know.

Nice little creek with some small pools and riffles:

Looks like a very relaxing day 'Ol Bud & I like your old timer
Thanks for sharing the trip !

Looks like a great trip. That is a wild looking tree! A bad days fishing is always better than a good days work ;)

My dad has that same Old Timer. He got it for subscribing to a magazine.

I think those are dried up Oyster mushrooms. Check again next fall. Fresh they are good eating. That would be a good haul.

Very cool pics. We used to go to a creek as kids in McAdoo PA just like that. There are a lot of cook hidden places in PA.

Thanks for sharing.

Great day indeed. Even though no fish were caught. The relaxation of just casting around and hangin out is reward enough.

Mmmmm. Oyster mushrooms.... Get em next fall, and you will be full and happy.:)
