Finally got to try out my new camera and my Gransfors Bruks small forest axe, destroying trees up here is a bit of a non issue,:D but I managed to find a lone pine that needed some trimming. Anyway, hope you enjoy the pics,
and have a drink tonight for the unfortunate few who live above the treeline.

My good friend and roommate adding much to the otherwise dull landscape.

And with a bit of the town behind

It was around minus 46C with the windchill, gotta dress warm!

gratuitous in hand pic. This thing chops like a much bigger axe.

It was a quick test, couldn't leave the gloves off too long.

No pics but I cut through this frozen, dry pine in a few chops, and limbed most of it very quickly. I am very happy with it.

Here's my current trio, until my F1 eventually comes for me to test.
I read hatchet in 1 sitting pretty much, I just got six Paulson books in the mail from santa. what a great book.
The match holder is full of fatwood slivers and wood matches, with a button compass superglued to the lid.

A little present for those who suffered through this,
A real beauty eh? It's a maverick 88;)
She can't wait to go shooting, and want's to learn some bushcraft skills.
And before you ask, yes she is taken, my other best friend, the 3 of us live together.
Cheers and have a good weekend.

Well now, that's my kind of climate! The pictures rock. Too bad about the only tree within a hundred miles, though. ;)

Nice pics and great little axe !!!

I won't ask how the 3 of you all manage to keep warm, that's another article in itself !!!

Great pics! Nice to see people enjoying the winter regardless of where you are.

Great photos!

It is very neat to see so many parts of the world on this forum. :D

Paulsen is a good author and an easy read who can put you right "there".

I highly recommend him for anyone who enjoys the outdoor/wilderness/wildlife genre.

Cool photos, I like that axe size.

I really like the Mav 88, I was looking at a similar shotgun at the gunshop last week. It's a good size.

Very nice Liam, been wanting one of thouse for a while now, not for a few months though. Great looking trio, and nice maverick.

Thanks guys, I never read the book as a kid but I did see the movie, which I can't find anywhere, much better then my side of the mountain.
But he actually helps give great advice for firestarting and lots of great stuff I want my kids to have.

Nice photos! I miss the place, I used to work up that way (Hall Beach, Kimmirut, Greenland), last time I spent any real time in Iqaluit must have been in 1995 or 1996, I saw a CF-18 crash there on take off at the end of the runway, pretty scary, I was staying at the Toonoonik Hotel (is that still around?) near the beach side of the runway...

Hey I saw that same plane crash... I worked at the old Baffin Divisional Education Board and the plumes of smoke were visible from my old bosses window.

Not much need for an Axe up there is there? Better off with a good ice chisel and a snow saw!

That little fir tree never grew in Iqaluit! A Christmas tree someone flew up?

Ain't much forest up there for axe work, eh?

An 80 dollar christmas at that, I was getting all the use out of it I could:D
I believe that inn is called the discovery lodge now, and I saw one of the engines of that plane several times.

very nice shots! thx 4 sharing. that axe has been on my list for awhile now, the Scandinavian forest axe and the hunters axe. I have a wetterlings and it's great but the GB is special...
