Out of all of these, why my Mora???

Skunkwerx I have never changed a thread subject in my life.

How can you say such a thing?:grumpy:

Why would you say such a thing?

Where is your charity? :thumbdn:

Your tolerance? :thumbdn:

Your understanding? :thumbdn:

I feel aggrieved. :(

What was this thread about anyway? :o
=========================================================

I may actually be in Mora withdrawl/denial. I had one as a kid and haven't been able to pick one up since.

why not the 545 instead of the 510? i thought the stainless held an edge pretty well.

wondering because i'll probably be ordering a few...a 2000, plus maybe a few others.

I have heard nothing but good things about the Moras, despite Kevin consistantly trying to change the topic of this thread. ;)

A Mora is on my list of knives to have around. Just hear too many good things about them to ignore them.

Nice picture, a great collection and good variety!

Try searching a few more threads, most of us who aren't crazy about Moras are just plain tired of re-hashing the same old subjects. If you are serious about wanting some, shoot me an email, I'd sure like to dump some of mine. I have several knives that cut much, much better that I greatly prefer to use over Moras. If others like their Moras, more power to them.

Wait a minute. I have thumbs. I've been sitting on them for years.

What I like about the Moras is how much can be done with so little. It is a basic knife and yet it works just great. Easy to make sheaths for them.

tarmix-- that is a great pic.... i too am a mora fan... i have 4 or 5... mora's, opinel's and SAK's are some of the best knives you can buy for the price...

you have a great selection of knives..... i love that charles may.... i finally got my gene ingram a few months ago... it is a beauty... they are friends and both have similar styles...

i have also been wanting to check out those ML knives... thay look great users....:o

Me to! :D

HoltFireant-1.jpg

My Refuge has been subject to mainly kitchen work so far. little here, little there. I like your Fireant I almost ordered the Fireant myself. However I have spent my Christmas (aka knives) money I had saved for the year. For a smaller fixed blade I went with Scott Gossmans PSK.

Back on topic.... my Mora will still always have it's place. As Thomas Linton mentioned it does everything I need it to do.

I just recently got a Mora from Dan Shecthman when we went on the overnite trip teaching a survival class. I have yet to try it. I hope to get out and hunt some more this week. I'm taking it to "play" with while out in the woods. Maybe give it a whirl field dressing a deer. I think the biggest draw to these blades is that they are inexpensive and a basic no nonsense tool to get the job done.

I have Swamp Rats, Beckers, Gerbers & Kabars & yep, same here, its STILL the Mora that gets the most use!
I try my best to dislike its cheap appearance & crappy (but PEFECTLY servicable!) sheath but cant deny the quality of the blade, the comfort of the handle & the clever design of the sheath that allows it to be slotted onto a large button of a coat or battle smock.
I think mine cost about £7.00 from some fishing supplies website.

Mora knives may be so popular and useful because they represent an evolution in design over 1,000 years or so. Light weight, efficiency and durability are among their virtues.

As I reread though this thread, it struck me that this pretty much sums up the Mora/Pukka ting pretty good!

Well said. :D

There's a really good deal for a Mora right now at Sportsmans Guide (no I'm not pimping for them) Under $10. They call it a Swedish soldiers knife, which it isn't...it's the Mora Clipper made by Frosts, but instead of the stainless steel blade it is a Kolstal high carbon blade. Instead of the red detailing on the Clipper, this one is in Olive Drab. I bought two of them, one for my truck and the other to stand by me here at the computer. For self defensive purposes only. With occasional black-op missions into the kitchen to cut some cheese or sausage or other wet work. What a great knife!

On the obverse side, it's stamped:
Frosts - Mora Sweden
Kolstal - High Carbon

It comes with a nice injection molded Kydex sheath. The total weight is under 4 ounces.

I had to work myself into buying such an inexpensive knife. I didn't think it was a quality tool. Once I bought one though, on the advice of many here, I loved it. I liked it so much I bought a brusletto so I could get a similiar grind on a "prettier" knife. I think the price is the reason that so many love to hate them. If they cost more, they would be fashionable, and any drawbacks would be quirks. My Frosts goes in my hunting bag with binocs and matches, and the brusletto is edc.

The Mora's are a great starting point for the disease of Wilderness knife buying (If you're infected and don't know it, ask your wife, she will be the first to know).

If you need bigger, badder, more this or that quality, after using a Mora for a while you will know what you want. They are a good basic knife. You've forgotten what you did with countless $10 bills in your life. Use one to buy a Mora and you won't regret it. Mac

Stu,

Glad you like it. That's a variation on what I tell my students, "You forgot what you did on alot of weeknds in your life but this won't be one of them." Mac
