I am not being snooty. I'm just not supposed to be typing.
I got hurt "boxing" last night, emergency room visit, six stitches, blah, blah..

I suppose it will get out eventually, so, the "whole truth:"

Last night, I was boxing up a knife to ship off and the knife fell out of the sheath. Not sure why, but my reflexes have been amazing for the last few years and I have caught everything I have dropped. Ahem, a problem in this case. I drop something and one of my hands catches it as if controlled by something other than me. Every time it happens, I am amazed. Last night was no different. Normally, when it's sharp, or hot, I pull off a phenomenal "break dance" between the time it leaves my control and it hits the ground. I do still have all my toes!

So, not to try to get sympathy or attention, rather to make sure everyone knows why I may not comment on their cool new knife acquisitions - I am relegated to "lurking" for several days. Well, that and trying to figure out how to run a flint and steel with one hand,... if I don't get caught.:o

I boxed a knife and lost.:o

Sorry to hear that. Fortunately, in my experience cuts inflicted by a really sharp knife tend to heal a bit faster than a ragged wound. Get well soon!

Heal up quick Jeff! We'll order you some of those Kevlar gloves. Til then, do all your "boxing" on the floor so nothing drops more than a couple inches ;).

As for one hand flint and steel, a Bic lighter has a flint in it. The little thumb wheel is steel. There ya go. Flint and steel that can be used with one hand.

Jeff,

Just do what the Doc(s) say to do and take it easy friend. I hope you feel better and suffer no complications.

oohh..... sorry to hear that Jeff...:o take it easy man.. i hear ya on the reflexes man...:o i probably would have done the asame thing...

the sad truth about being a knife junkie, is that sooner or later we're bound to get cut....:(
i have had some gnarly cuts and refused to go to the doctor, i'm sure a few of them definately could have used stitches...

My very best wishes, sucks having nonfunctional hands! Got a few bandaged up right now do to a disagreement with a power drill.

Yikes. Well, on the bright side, as the saying goes, "chicks dig scars".

Seriously though, sorry to hear about your injury, and get well soon.

All the best,

- Mike

PS How did the knife turn out?

Did you cut both hands? Don't be a wussy. Learn to type one-handed. Thats what I had to do when this happened.:D

I know the feeling. When we kids would go to my father and complain about sunburn (something a little common sense would have avoided), his response was "50 grit garnet paper will take that right off!"

Last time I was out camping, I was hammering a wooden wedge through a piece of ceder I was splitting (building project) and still, to this day, I don't know how, but I managed to hit my thumb (I wasn't holding the wedge with my hand) with the back of my hatchet. I had no feeling in my thumb for the rest of the weekend, and the black spot under my nail only just grew out. So, my sympathies!

I feel your pain Jeff. Cut my finger bad last month opening up a package. Damn near cut it off. Right on the knuckle, hospital, stitches. Get well soon.
