I've seen plenty of Becker blades with stainless hardware on them, so I don't think I'm the only one that feels this way!
The only time I had a problem with the black oxide bolts rusting it when I ground off some of the finish and left 'em wet.
That said, I prefer stainless, but have also used Titanium and sometimes change the bolt head.
Easy enough to find replacement (SS) fasteners at the hardware store. I order the more exotic stuff online anyway, and probably would even if they came with SS bolts and lock-nuts. Just to be different...
I even found a source for black-oxide-coated SS bolts - but the cost was a bit prohibitive for me, and none of my aftermarket/self-made/replacement scales are black anyway.
Would be great if KaBar started using those. But if they didn't tell anybody, we'd probably swap 'em out anyway!!!
No doubt. I think swapping out for stainless hardware is one of the most common mods/upgrades i've seen. I just have a hard time with it. From an aesthetic standpoint I think they stick out like a sore thumb, and again, you already bought a carbon steel knife!
My hardware does have a couple of rust spots on it, and I don't really care. I wipe a little anti-seize compound on the screw threads when i take the handles apart, and put a drop of oil into the screw head (and then wipe it out). That way i always know that the screws won't lock into the nut with rust, and I can get my driver in the screw head to remove. Anything else is just cosmetic.
Of course, just like your OCD is on you, my misanthropic jerkwad attitude about people maintaining their stuff is on me. See? We can all be crazy!
Interesting, where did you source the Ti hardware from?
HobbyTown.
I guess the RC Car guys fancy themselves some fancy screws. (Anodized aluminum, too.)
Black-Coated SS is at Fastenal.
I'am with you on that. When I wipe my striped blades with min oil I also wipe the handles and a little later wipe off. Haven't had rust issues and when my Knife gets messed up after use I take scales off clean and oil sometimes use Mothers polish on the blades. I'am also OCD. 😜Not really griping. Just wish they would come with stainless hardware that's all. My OCD about rusty hardware is on me anyway.....
Holy Crap!
It's Ginourmous!

I believe Coyle Outdoors sells the black stainless sets.
AKA Dex Whithers around these parts.
