Have you ever had a maker just give you a call out of the blue, just to say hi and shoot the breeze? I was just sitting here reading a post when the phone rang and it was Steve Filicietti from Australia. We talked for about 15 minutes about knives, knifemakers and about things like the weather. Steve is a very nice fella and him doing something like that makes me really want to meet the man, even more than I wanted to before.

Anyway, it was really nice to get this call and I was wondering if any of you have had similar experiences. Any of you makers call your customers just to say hello?

That is pretty cool Keith. In my case it is because of friendships that heve developed. On rare occasions some one may ask for an opinion or call to get feedback on something they are thinking about trying.

Lynn Griffith called me just to shoot the breeze and say hi once, but you know we ended up talking about knifes of course, he ended up asking for my opinion on a knife he was thinking of making if i remember correctly!

Steve Filicietti impressed me as both a knife maker and all around good guy, always gald to hear good press about him and other knife makers for sure.

The late knifemaker and fellow Oregonian Dave Murphy and myself became acquainted to the point of which the phone would ring about nine at night occasionally, and it would be Dave....just seeming like he wanted to shoot the breeze about this or that, and I would more than accomodate him. His wife would talk to me from the background and Dave would relay my response....He was good company, a fine maker....but more importantly a fine individual, and I miss him.

just to say hi, get feedback, and remind them that i will sharpen and clean up their knives. this is important for my culinary knife customers that sometimes have little knowledge of sharpening etc, i want them to have their knives in top shape. no charge, just shipping cost.
