Out of the Wild, anybody watching?

Speaking from a knife nut's perspective, I wonder how much easier their lives would've been if they had been allowed to each bring a personal knife. From what I understand, they were limited on the gear they were allowed.

Not that any of it would be easy with all of the obstacles they had to overcome, but a simple blade for everyone would go a long way in smoothing it, imo.

How come Ranger dude was not identified as a Ranger on the first episode? They just said he was Army.

And what was with that ridiculous mohawk dude "food hoarding" controversy? Mohawk dude was holding on to some fruit for the two blond chicks because they were eating everything right away at camp. Ranger dude accused him of hoarding? I guess everyone was very testy, but that wasn't showing good leadership skills.

Yeah, I think Nick is his first name. I'm not sure if he was actually in the Ranger Regiment or just Ranger School qualified...being I'm an Army brother as well, Nick has done a pretty good job of not trying to take charge of anything, but lack of food and loss of calories really does affect your moods and actions. As strange as he is, I like Mohawk dude; he does have some issues playing well with others, but does contribute a lot.

The dynamics between members is part of the show which gives viewers a little bit of drama, but I do think it's a pretty realistic aspect of group interaction under stress. Overall, I enjoy the show and which they would slow down the movement and let them work a little more on shelter building, exploration and food gathering.

the old weird guy seems like he could survive. if i was on the show, i'd convince him to ditch the group and go it alone with me. i'm laid back, i don't care if he wants 2 pieces of firewood lol. So much drama.
and they are carrying so much crap, and rushing for no reason. i'd pick my own camp spot.
still a good show though.

edit: yeah, after some thought, i guess the editors and producers are to blame for the fake time constraints and forced equipment.

There is no doubt most these guys are clueless, but most of what you guys are saying is out of their hands, They must use that equipment provided, nothing else, Alaska was the the same. They have to use certain paths or close to it from place to place. All this is setup and decided by the producers, so they are only making due with the hand they have been dealt. This is not quite the same as they are in a foreign land, not USA Alaska, so they stray too far, they truly can get hurt via nature or natives. Its a whole other set of rules they have to go by on this one. They will start to get some help I bet soon or they will drop half the team at once before long. So look for some things to get or seem easier for them and they will start seeming like they are learning what they are doing out there.

A show about a group of guys that know what they are doing would be great, but would be taken on by another group of producers Im sure, they are banking on people wanting to see them suffer and look like a common person lost in the wild and no skills. That is why they pick who they pick

All in all, I watch it with my boys and take it for what its worth, its better than most things on TV for sure.
