Out with the Beckers !!!

Thanks everyone.

Nice post, it looks like you had a great time.

To shed a little light on the snake identifacation my girlfriend who is on her way to being a herpatologist says that the snake picture in the origional post looks like an Eastern Ribbon snake. This snake is usually mistaken for a Garter snake but is it's own species. While the color varies slightly with the individuals the Ribbon snake usually has bolder stripes and the body is on average thinner than the Garter, they also have a longer tail. (from the vent to tip of tail)

I don't know about New York but the Eastern Ribbon snakes is of special concern in Maine.

While it is hard to make a 100% acurate identifacation without having this individual in hand, going by that picture that snake is not a Garter.

Not trying to stir the pot but you did ask for help with the ID,

Jeremy

Jeremy--- why is that ? "of special concern" ???

Snakes of the Bergen Swamp Preservation Society:

Of special concern means that it is on the brink of being endagered in a certaain area. So there would be a focused effort to proctect and conserve the speices, and their habitat.

Nice pics!

I may have missed it somewhere in the thread, but what is the permit deal on the camo pack? A deer permit or something?

Personally, Id be pretty happy if all snakes were extinct. lol. I'm deathly afraid of them. I know they are part of the food chain/circle of life but I'm hopeful we could figure out a way to live without them (Mosquitos too)

Yes. The top one is my New York State tag/license & the bottom one is my Bergen Swamp Preservation Society tag/license. BIG TIME FINES & PROBLEMS/JAIL if you get caught hunting without either one (bottom one is just for the BSPS property-gotta know someone & a surounding property owner to get in).

Only the poisonous ones bother me, but skeeters-----kill all those pesky bastids !!!

Cool pics TwinStick.
Looks like a good time.
