Why can't people who have a love for the outdoors have their own book club? I just got Mors Kochanski's book and I'm trying to motivate myself to go through the entire thing and learn/practice the skills. Follow along if you have a similar interest.

I appreciate the effort that you are putting in A.I.G. You are honest and down to earth. I bought Mors book about six months ago but to tell the truth, I haven't looked at it much. Unfortunately I go through periods of reading interest, and disinterest. I usually grab it on the way to the thunder room then toss it back on a ledge. This may be a spur to help me get into it. Incidentaly, I lived in the small northern city that Mors did many years ago. We may have walked through the same stands of trees. Unfortunately I had moderate interest in bushcraft at the time and nothing but basic outdoor knowledge. Now I find myself longing to move back up north to the Boreal.

EPISODE 2: EVERYTHING you need to start a fire with flint and steel, including where to find the flint.

Cool stuff AIG, and you didn't have to use any magic words or get all retentive. The ferny stuff you gathered is aquatic plants out of whatever river you are by. In the spring when the water is high it fills the lower flood zone and leaves all kinds of stuff in trees. That's another good reason to look for water when you are setting up a camp or just out kicking around and want to get some woodsmoke time. Plus the huge mass of dead leaning over dry wood most river bank woods will have.

I think this is a great idea. Looking forward to more!

Bowdrill fires are very difficult in wet, rainy weather.

I recently purchased this book as well, however I have not had the chance to get outside and actually perform the various instructions. This is an excellent idea. Subscribed....
