Outdoor Edge Magna
Plain Edge, Cold-Forged Aluminum Handle Blade: 4"(10.2cm) Overall:9-1/4"(23.6cm)

Does any Bladeforum Members own one of these?
What do you think of it?
MSRP: $99.00

I own 2 of them, 1 Aluminum and 1 with Zytel scales. They are great and they are truly one of the best buys around. I highly recommend them if you're looking for a tough folder. The Zytel version is economical, but has slightly thicker liners than the Aluminum version.

I've had a Magna with zytel scales for some time now. Cost me $38+, shipping included, from Bayou Laforche.

Setup was perfect. Liner-lock perfectly registered and I can't force an unintentional lock failure by either twisting or spine-whacking. Actually, due to the thick steel liners, it would take a gorilla to twist this knife along the blade/handle axis.

The blade-opening studs are cupped and stand off from the blade a bit to compensate for the overall width of this knife. This makes opening quite fast and easy with no discomfort to the thumb at all. I did notice some discomfort due to the stud stand-off after several hours when the knife is carried in-waistband. As a comparison, the feel of this knife carried IWB is about the same as the CRKT Point Guard, since both have thick metal liners.

The blade material is AUS8, which is an excellent steel for a knife that costs less than $40, including shipping.

In terms of value, I think the Magna is the current champion. In terms of quality workmanship as-delivered, my Magna is comparable to $100 price-class folders by Benchmade or Spyderco.

I don't think you'll be disappointed with this knife.

Overall a great knife for the money if you are after a large folder that you can abuse without worrying about the scratches, dings, etc. Mine was very well made, with a good edge right out of the box, and solid lockup. Plus it has the great lines of Carson's classic model 4. If it came in a smaller size, say 3 1/4" - 3 1/2" blade it would be a perfect carry knife.

If you hunt around, you can find them for under $40 from internet dealers.
