Most of the listed movies are fantasy movies!
Into the Wild? -didn't the poor sap starve to death?
If you've never heard of Richard Proenneke, try to find his movie "Alone in the Wilderness" which is often shown on PBS. This 1968 self-filmed documentary details how he settled by a lake in Alaska and then hand-built a cabin and other items of living using only basic hand tools. He then lived there for the next 30 years taking most of his nourishment from the lake and local game. This movie is self-filmed and you will notice that modern people such as Les Stroud has borrowed heavily from Richard's cinematography style.
If you can't find the movie, get the book: One Man's Wilderness: An Alaskan Odyssey , by Sam Kieth, who wrote it based on Richard's journal.
