Outdoors knife

What if someone bought it for you in the US and sent it as a gift? Without the box and all...
Would they still charge tax? Just tell them you bought it in Canada and left it in the US when you were visiting there...so your cousin posted it to you...

ahhahahahhaa

elaborate plan which i doubt will work...

My choice of the knives available from Knifezone in your price range would be the Becker BK-7. I have not handled one, but have had the opportunity to handle the BK-9 and I lliked it a lot. The handle was a bit to big for my hand, but it was overall a really good knife.

If you don't mind ordering from the States, I would look at the Ontario RAT-7. I like the handle better and you should be able to get it for about the same price.

One is rubber and the other stacked leather. It seems that everyone has their preference. I'm afraid only you can decide which feels better to you.

I thinks it's best to buy exaclty what you like without having to make compromises on qualtiy, looks and feel even if you have spend a little more to get that perfect knife.

Take your time and do some research, you'll find exactly what your looking for.

defense for animals? what animals?

If I am on an extended camp/hike I carry a kabar D-2 extreme, or a knifeware Kampr. For short trips I carry a benchmade 721 and a sak huntsman.

I live in a very "wild" part of the world and I don't hike on trails.

It's not uncommon to run into Coyotos, foxes, wolves (If I hike in Labrador), wild dogs etc. There have been a few occasions I would prefer to have a good knife on me due to safty reaons (You can't carry guns in Canada without a specific reason). I just can't take a .22 when I good on exteneded hikes in the deep forest so I'm going for the next best thing.

Lots of good suggestions..., and I'd say the Corps version of the K-Bar (stacked leather)..., or the BK-7 are the top picks for what you want to spend....

Let us know what you get... :)...

I ordered the Ka-Bar 1211.

Reasons:
1) I prefer the lower profile of the Kabar to the BK-7.
2) I won't be using it for light chopping etc negating a reason to purchase the BK-7. It's more of a carrying knife and because of this I beleive the 1211 suits me more.
3) I prefer the all black apperance of the 1211 to the brown leather of the 1217.

Thanks for all your helpful comments and suggestions.

Get a Dymondwood staff. They're hard as steel, but flexible. Heavy. I've got one five ft. long. It would be better than any knife against an animal, or maybe even a human. I carry mine all over. Police pass by. They don't even look. It's just a stick and, around here, lots of people walk with broom handles etc. for dogs mostly.

My dad actually carved me a full length staff from birch. Has a metal talking cone on the bottom and my name etched in norse runes on it.

It's very cool.
