As much as I like my SAKs, am not really a multi-blade fan at all. One reason being am not keen on fiddly nail-nicks and silly little fiddly blades.

My go-to is usually a large single bladed folder, cutting edge 3" or a tad under.

Recently had the opportunity to buy a used folder from Willie Paulsen - retired Knife Makers Guild member in South Africa. The wood looked unusual and the f&f looked very good indeed.

Have had it now for about 2 months and it has sat in my tidy tray next to the computer. There's a selection of folders there and I often will grab a couple and have a play n fondle.

Steadily, over this time, this Paulsen has totally grown on me and have to confess the size, weight, combo of blade shapes n sizes has got me hooked. Have a 2-blade Halfrich as well which is now, all of a sudden, appreciated even more.

Know nothing of Stockman, Eureka, Jacks etc etc, but now getting to understand a few. Size of this one is a gnat's under 3-3/4" o/a closed length, so I guess a Medium Stockman.

Find it ever surprising that my tastes still evolve after all these years owning knives.

A few pics below. The wood is Umtiza, a uncommon wood found in Eastern Cape - the following extract from SA National Biodiversity Institute: The wood of umtiza is said to be very hard and oily and was used in the past to house propeller shafts in small boats, as the natural oil provided constant lubrication. This tree is traditionally a sacred tree for the Xhosa people, who use it for protection against lightening and evil spirits, by hanging a piece of bark above the door. They also take a piece of stick and use it as healing wand, which is believed to be effective. Steel is Bohler N690

Thank you, Willie, for a wonderful piece of craftsmanship - this will be much treasured.

That is a really good looking knife. Looks extra comfy for the hand too.

All of the above ...PLUS protection against evil spirits!

That is a big piece of old Olivewood bought on a cruise in the Med...........can't resist a nice bit o' wood

Very, very nice knife.... I love the spear point (pen?) instead of the spey.... very nicely done.

The stockman pattern is rather versatile ... and potentially addictive ....
That sure is a pretty one, to be sure. :)

I've had a large stockman in my RF pocket for more years than I care to count. At least since second or third grade, at any rate.
(I started school in 19 and 60)

I don't care to count the years because it would probably and undoubtedly make me feel old ... just like attending my 45th class reunion would have.
(Yes, I did not attend. I ain't going to the 50th one, neither. Besides, No one wanted to see me when I was in school. Why would they want to now?)

Am I overlooking the nail nick on the main blade? My eyeballs may need spark plugs cause I’m missing it

He hasn't shown the other side. Take a closer look. All his images show nail nicks for the secondary blades, for what would be normally be the mark side for the main blade.

Stockman knives are absolutely silly. Just get rid of. I’ll send you a PM with shipping address to properly dispose of that amazing knife. Oh crap. Did I give myself away there?

Im a stockman lover. Also improved trappers. The combination of a straight and a curved blade makes a knife 100x more useful I find.
