I got the chance to burn things, I mean go hiking/camping/bumming-around-the-woods with JV3 again. We went to Harriman State Park, though on a map it seems it may be Dater Mountain County Park technically. It is in NY state, just across the border from NJ. Below are some pics of ze adventure.

He should have some more photos of the adventure as well. I only have a couple of good knife shots and they are both of ESEE knives.....GASP. Though he does have one with me and the bk9, so no worries there.

Moral of the day: Make lots of feather sticks and/ore small wood shavings. The wood was cold, wet and never had the chance to truly season. Only the smaller stuff would light.

A successful attempt at melting/boiling/drinking snow.

If you are referring the second to last one, it is orange...

If it is the last photo, for some reason the look on his face makes me think we was looking back with a WTH look on his face. Just a random title.

Good outing ya'll, I took the time today to stretch my legs a little. No pics though, Moose don't always take a camera. WTF kinda knife is that orange?

It is a Mora, not sure which company makes it though since there are a few. Can't believe how bright that thing was. Almost glowed in the day light. Cut well, though the sheath was a little iffy.

Mora's have some funky colors don't they ?

But for $15, they're great little knives. Light. Easy to carry. Sharpens right up
and if you loose/break it ... doesn't cost you too much.

Use mine a ton. When I don't have one of my Beckers of course ... :D

Lol, all good points. Have to wait and see what SHOT show gives us. Tempted to get one of the newer moras, though of the tweeners come out and are priced right, I may "have" to get one of those instead/in-addition.

thanks for the pics, aaron. as usual, definitely another excellent time hanging out! too funny on that last pic, i was hopped up on the caffeine from the coffee near the end there.

...although the reason i kept looking back when we were near the trailhead at the start was i kept looking out for the sheeple snowshoe'ers so i can turn my backpack away from them. i doubled the dose of anti-sheeple today - the esee lite machete on one side and the junglas on the other for maximum effect :D man, i'm really loving that combo mora/machete lately, especially that unmistakable 'twang that only a machete can produce.

here are my pics...one of many deer tracks. they were all over the trail today although we didn't actually see any. it might also be the chupacabra, never know.

did i pick the right base camp or what? there were a lot more firewood than i expected.

018_002.jpg

whoa...isn't this the dude from black hawk down? :D

018_003.jpg

i was carrying so many knives i'm pretty sure i violated the geneva convention on bushcraft. it was around 20 deg f but i was sweating so much i was down to my under armour base layer. ah heck, i'll never be an ultra-light hiker anyway, i'm having too much fun playing with knives. not to mention it's good exercise.

no sissy, safe-queen knives here

terrorist!!!

018_007.jpg

okay, maybe mall ninja? :D

018_008.jpg

mora 860 clipper f. in-doors it looks just like any other orange g10 scaled knives i have, orange paracord, etc. but when i brought it outdoors on the snow it was insanely bright!

in person if you looked closely, the orange was actually reflecting off of the snow and had that glowing look to it as if it was a neon sign! never seen anything like that. they definitely did a great job on the plastic's formula.

aaron is wondering to himself, "i wonder if jay noticed i accidently scooped up that yellow snow? " nah, the bits of tree bark in the water should mask the taste :D

this picture is deceptive. a few inches off to the side it's almost knee deep in snow. we were lucky this particular trail had a few snow-shoe'ers already ahead of us by a few hours, compacting the snow for us. even then it was really slow going.

aaron, next up let's hit jungle habitat and do some friction fire with bamboo  or we can follow my plan and just chop a ton of logs, toss in 5 lbs worth of fatwood and drink beer 50 ft away from the massive bonfire  good times, bro...good times...already looking forward to the next one.

It's by Mora of Sweden. One of their NeverLost line. You can see why. :D

definitely amazing glow to it. i had my spyderco orange g10 military with me as well and it was nowhere near as glow orange as that mora.

i'm definitely impressed by the mora from today's outing. i think my blind horse knives bushcrafter got nervous after i kept giving praise to the mora and kept saying i'm done buying anymore high-end knives that near the end the bushcrafter did produce the nicest feather sticks. i'm still definitely moving away from high-end knives now and starting to favor the mora and the machete, even up here in this frozen area.

Great pics guys. Thanks for sharing them.Looks like a good time.

I've never seen a knife(or anything) THAT orange. It looks like its glowing!

You guys that live in it prolly hate it, but I love seeing the snow pics  Goid stuff!

Cool pics. My camera is only rated for -10 and it has been around -25 Celsius here lately. No snow romping pics from this side right now. I really want to play out a ''my car broke down'' scenario and see if I can get it together quickly with what's on hand. Likely the Eskabar and my beater axe.

Great pics, my buddy has one of those billy cans..I really need to get one of those. I am always using his.
