Outstanding ironwood

DWK2, you are right about lignum vitae. It also oxides over time. It starts out a brownish color then slowly changes to a brownish green. Pretty unsual.

Interesting. My handle must have been made from an aged piece because it is already showing some green. I actually like that feature. Thanks for the info!

When you rap the handle of the lignum vitae/1095 knife with something hard, the whole knife rings like a bell---as if the grip were also steel. Don't think I'll have to worry about dings! I thought one of my knives with an African Bloodwood handle was hard, but lignum vitae is in another league.

Yes it's a wood that can handle hard use. I made a Tusker with 8670M steel and lignum vitae scales. I worked that knife hard on a winter trip in Jan. 2008 at hawk Mtn. Joezilla took some pics of me batoning through hard seasoned oak. The pic below shows the wood before it changed color.
