Hi all,
I built my own heat treat oven per the build instructions floating around here on BF and it's been working great. However, yesterday, just as it had gotten to temperature, it started dropping temperature very quickly. Turns out one of the elements burnt out.

I have two questions for those of you familiar with ovens and burnt elements:
1. Did it burn out because I left the coiled portion too close too the bolt where I have it anchored?
2. Can I heat a couple of inches of the coiled portion on the end and straighten it to re-connect it to the bolt?
Thanks!
